I’m going to be going off birth control within the next few months so thought I would start on some prenatal vitamins. Which brands do you use or recommend? Anything else you take to help prepare your body? Thanks bees!

Hubby got me the Centrum pre-natal vitamins. Wondering if any of you have tried them and if you like them/if they are good. Thanks!

@cherrycoke: You just need to make sure you get plenty of folic acid. Drink a glass of OJ each day along with the vitamin. It will pack you full of the stuff 🙂

@mwitter80: Thanks…they say take w/ food though so will OJ be enough? I have accidentally taken a regular vitamin before w/o eating and it upset my stomach…
The pills say the serving is 100% for folic acid…is that enough?

@cherrycoke: My ob said no. She said getting more than 100% was key for most women. You’re going to have to see how it effects you. I can take mine with a sip of water with no issues.

@mwitter80: Alright so…should I take the vitamins and then get more vitamins of just folic acid? Are those available? I know nothing 🙂

My ob said the OJ was enough. So I’m sticking with that.

I’m on a food base pre-natal, New Chapter. They are more expensize than most but I love that they are food base. Check out the Babies Boards because there are a couple of threads discussing what different Bees are doing to get ready for TTC.

I second New Chapter Perfect Prenatal. You want folate, not so much folic acid. I heard folate is food based instead of synthetic. Also, try to eat foods that have it naturally. I also take krill oil.

Another vote here for “New Chapter Perfect Prenatal”!
I like the New Chapter Perfect Prenatal because:
- no dyes
- no unfermented soy
- has probiotics
- split into 3 doses for better absorption
I also take:
- “Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA”
- krill oil
- vitamin D (extra 2000-3000 IU per day)
- calcium/magnesium
