xraychick01 :  honestly, if you live in a first world country and eat properly, barring a metabolization problem, you don’t need them. Even a good OB-GYN will tell you that. Heck, our food these days is pumped full of them anyway… look at cereal! I had both of my kids without taking anything but iron for the second, and that just a half dose. Eat greens/veggies and red meat, cook in an iron skillet, get your vitamins naturally and frankly it’ll make you healthier too (if that’s a thing you need). Bonus: less likely to have nausea caused by suddenly taking vitamins.

Granted if you want to do it the other way, go for it. Whatever works! Just thought I’d throw the other perspective out there.

Anything with folic acid.  I buy vitamins at Costco.

I buy the nature made brand. Big gel pills, but you only have to take one per day.

I use the first response gummy ones because nothing motivates you to take your vitamins like having them in gummy form. 😉

I have used a few different kinds but now I just use whatever is in gummy form and tastes good so it isn’t awful to take (I’m in my first trimester). I don’t think it really matters as long as it has folic acid. My doc did absolutely tell me to take them every day. I think it’s most crucial in the 1st trimester.

I take Rainbow Light Prenatal One and a DHA prenatal supplement.  I’ve taken them for both pregnancies.  I took the prenatal while TTC, pregnant, through breastfeeding, then TTC again, and now pregnant. I did stop the DHA between pregnancies, but I read recently that you should also take it while breastfeeding.

xraychick01 :  I also take the Nature Made ones. I prefer gummy vitamins, but keep in mind gummies usually don’t have iron. Iron is important for a healthy pregnancy. I am chronically anemic, so iron was a must, and gummies wouldn’t work for me.

I liked my Centrum ones. Took separate Omega 3 capsules; I did Krill oil (so no fishy taste) after clearing it with my GP and baby doc.

I take the nature made gummies with DHA. They were recommended to me, and I haven’t had any issues with them. They don’t cause any fishy burps or aftertaste, and who doesn’t love a gummy vitamin?! My doctor was adamant that I begin taking prenatals prior to conceiving, but especially during the first trimester as they aid with brain development. I would be wary of anyone telling you to get these types of vitamins and minerals from diet alone, especially given how your diet can change based on aversions and sicknesses while pregnant.

I really like Pink Stork. The liquid has folate as opposed to synthetic folic acid.

I took the rainbow ones that were huge and tasted like barf. 🤮

Also took a separate DHA one (Nordic Naturals) that did not taste like barf. 👍

I take the First Response gummies. I would look for 50 grams of DHA and 800mg of Folic Acid which is what mine has. A lot of prenatals don’t have enough of either. During my first trimester I was so nauseous I couldn’t get any dark leafy greens so I’m glad I had a good prenatal!
