(Closed) Prenup on down payment “gift”??

allenb :  She clearly stated that she already denied the money, but her Fiance and mother are still discussing without her. THAT is the major issue in my opinion.

If you’re uncomfortable with it, I wouldn’t take it. I mean what if the value of the house tanks, then are you expected to cough up the 100, 000 in any case? At the very least seek legal counsel and don’t proceed til you’re 100% comfortable.

If i were you i would only be concerned that the money on the downpayment of the house did not in any way legally entitle your Mother-In-Law to any kind of partial ownership in your home. That would be a deal breaker for me because then she could control what you did with that house including selling it if you ever moved, or rennovations. I have seen those horror stories on DWIL a few times. Just make sure legally the only names on the deed are you and your Darling Husband.
