I wasn’t sure where to put this. I just bought a dress off of POWD.com and it needs cleaned before I have it altered. There’s self tanner in the underarm area and some other various stains. I would love recommendations from you ladies about where to send it. I don’t have a ton of confidence in the local cleaners here in Portland. If you’ve had good work done by someone who accepts shipped dresses let me know please! For some reason Google is failing me on this one. I know there are companies who specialize in dress cleaning. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated!

No local dry cleaner will clean a wedding dress in store. It is a send out, meaning it must go to a company that has special equipment. I’d ask your local cleaners where they send it. Make sure you go to a reputable shop. It usually takes a few weeks.

I’ve also heard that you should have the dress cleaned after alterations are done. Otherwise you clean it, inevitably get it dirty during fittings, and then have to clean it again. Based on the fabric this may be too much for the dress.
I would also call some bridal salons in your area and ask for recommendations. They’ll for sure know who the local pros are.

I bought my dress at a thrift shop. I soaked it in a bathtub with warm water and washing powder.
Then I used a soft toothbrush/sponge and some mild soap and wiped away at stains etc.
Dress came up bright white and spotless. This pic is pre weight loss and pre alterations but you get the idea 🙂

I’m a bit hesitant to do something like that as my dress still cost $1000!
