Ideal Situation:

How old would you and your partner be? 27 & 29
What state would your finances be in? (i.e., savings, income, debt, etc) Just a little bit of law school debt left for Darling Husband.
What would your career situation be like? (i.e., position, education level, etc) Same position I am in. Darling Husband wants to have his law firm up and running before we ttc.
What would your living situation be like? Living in our home, which we currently own.
What goals and accomplishments would you achieve? Mainly my Darling Husband starting his law firm is the main thing. He’s working on it while currently working full time elsewear– but we want to be secure in his new career adventure! Would like to redo our bathrooms before kids come along.
Real Situation:

What age were you or will you be? 27 & 29, still on schedule I suppose.
What state were or will your finances be in? Should be down to one small law school loan for Darling Husband, and also have his new firm be profitable (which shouldn’t be an issue since it is already panning out that way).
What was or will your career situation be like? Continue working from home for my company & Darling Husband also working from home a lot for his own law firm.
What was or will your living situation be like? We’ll be in our home for 2 years at that point. Plenty of space for 2 kiddos!
What did you or will you accomplish? We booked another trip to Europe recently. Hopefully will go twice before we have a baby. Ideally my DH’s dream of running his own firm full time will be accomplished 🙂

Ideal Situation VS Real Situation:

How old would you and your partner be?

 • Ideal: I wanted to be between 28-30
 • Reality: I will be 31, my Husband will be 35

What state would your finances be in? (i.e., savings, income, debt, etc)

 • Ideal: I thought we would have very little debt (basically just husband’s student loans), good credit, lots of savings
 • Reality:We just have DH’s student loans, poor credit (ick), but more than anticipated in savings

What would your career situation be like? (i.e., position, education level, etc)

 • Ideal: Both employed in good stable jobs with my job haivng flexibiluty so I can be at home
 • Reality: My husband is out of work right now. I finished my doctorate and I am employed at a good job that let’s me have flexibility. However, I still need to get licensed to make sure this work can stay what I need it to be! Husband is looking for work!

What would your living situation be like?

 • Ideal: Living in our forever home with 4 bedrooms, spacious backyard, great schools, near family, in a particular neighborhood.
 • Reality: living in a 2-bedroom apartment, no backyard, looking for a house close to my family but not in the neighborhood we wanted, schools are okay… we are thinkig of staying there for 5-10 years and then will probably go with private school

What goals and accomplishments would you achieve?

I guess close to where we are now… but just with both of us being employed and with a home. I also wanted to be off of anti-depressants but am not. I don’t know, overall I thought we were in okay shape but now reading over my answers I am not sure sure . . . Eek.. Thoughts?

Ideal Situation:

How old would you and your partner be? Somewhere between 25 and 30.

What state would your finances be in? (i.e., savings, income, debt, etc) Student debts/credit card debts paid off, at least $10-15k in savings.

What would your career situation be like? (i.e., position, education level, etc) Both working full time, and hopefully with a job that would give me decent maternity leave/benefits. Ideally he will move up in his current company and become a supervisor.

What would your living situation be like? We’d own our own house, maybe 3 or 4 bedrooms in a decent neighbourhood.

What goals and accomplishments would you achieve? I’d have my bachelor’s degree, and we’d be married.

Real Situation:

What age were you or will you be? We were 21 when our daughter was born (we weren’t TTC). Although I’d love for our kids to be close in age, we likely won’t TTC until late 2017 or 2018 (we’ll be 25/26).

What state were or will your finances be in? Awful, lol. I had a few thousand in savings and he had almost nothing. We’re currently trying hard to save as much as we can, so I’d like to think that we’ll be financially comfortable when we decide to TTC. I also gain access to my trust fund in October 2017, so that helps a ton.

What was or will your career situation be like? I was a full time student with a minimum wage job, and he was working for his parents’ business and not making very much. By the time we are TTC, I will ideally have a career in my field. He’s currently a contractor for a rail company and makes a comfortable amount of money, so hopefully that will still be the case.

What was or will your living situation be like? We both lived at home with our families. He works out of province for 10 days at a time, the baby and I still live with my family, and we spend his days off at his parents’ house. When we TTC, we will own a house (my mother left me a trust fund with specific instructions that I was to buy a house with it).

What did you or will you accomplish? When we found out we were expecting our first baby, we had accomplished NOTHING. No degree, no stable jobs, nada. Next time, we will be married (October 2017), and I’ll have my BA (next year!!)

Basically, our first time around was less-than-ideal. Things are starting to come together for us now, and if it keeps up we’ll have our shit together by the time we try for another little squish 😛
