My FI and I are coming up on our first holiday with a joint account.
We both have seperate accounts, but we don’t touch that money as it’s for emergencies only. We both have the same amount in each- the minimum to keep the account open.
So, that being said..how do yall buy presents when you only have 1 active (joint) account? My thing is, we both regularly check our accounts online to monitor spending. We don’t care if we buy small purchases on our own or each out to lunch once or twice a week (or buy coffee every morning… ) but we also make sure we don’t make any outrageous purchases or go below a certain level each month.
But, neither of us want to see where our presents are coming from and how much they cost.

texaslemon: For my husband and I we agree on a limit to spend and then transfer that cash into our seperate accounts to buy the gift. You could also take out cash, or use a credit card that is not joint to purchase.

texaslemon: Do you not have a credit card of your own? This is how we do it. We both have credit cards in our own names (as well as joint ones). We use credit cards for everything for the rewards anyway and just pay it off every month. If you don’t, maybe you could each agree to take out a certain amount of cash that will cover the gifts? That way you won’t know exactly how much was spent and where. And then you could just keep the extra cash for you daily expenses.
