So at the moment I am out of town for work, and I know my ring is hidden somewhere in our house back home since I accepted the FedEx package a couple weeks ago when I was there haha. I am expecting it to happen around Christmas – it’s pretty much obvious because he promised before the end of 2011.
Anyway… I want to have pretty nails so I have been taking hair and nail vitamins twice a day to make them nice and strong and fingers crossed, none will break before I get that ring! I also have booked my very first gel nail manicure when I get home. It’s called Gelish, which is apparently a cross between nail polish and gel so you just paint it on and it hardens with UV and is supposed to last like two weeks without chipping. Has anyone had this done before? I’m really curious – I have seen some gorgeous nails on lots of bees on this site.
I’m just really really excited to get home for Christmas in a few more days, get my nails done and then sit back and wait! It seems surreal that there are a limited number of days left before I can say I’m ENGAGED!
Good luck to everyone else waiting for the end of the year! It’s SO SOON 🙂

YES. Had the feeling it was going to happen, got the Shellac done the day before he popped the question! I’m really hard on my nails (I paint a lot) and it lasted about a week and a half which was damn near a miracle! Looked great, got tons of compliments. It burns your cuticles a bit, though… here’s a picture

I wish I thought about this! I’m just so clueless when it come to this kind of stuff! My nails look awful.

I get the gels whenever I go on vacation. I am horribly rough on my hands and I chip regular polish within hours of putting it on. The gels hold up wonderfully. They don’t chip till I literally start picking at them and TRY to peel them off. 🙂 You’ll love ’em. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas 🙂

I just got a shellac manicure last week. I did the “french” because that is what SO loves the best … I love it and since the only “color” is on the tip, I don’t show “growth” down by the cuticle which means I can wear it for a few weeks before re-doing. Notice my ring finger is obviously lacking something? 😉

Those are gorgeous! French is what I’m getting too, so it doesn’t look as grown out. And I really love French manicures anyway. I usually do it just with regular polish but it only lasts a day or two before it chips.
Also very pretty! And that’s awesome timing haha. I am fairly hard on my nails too whenever I paint them, bobby pins seem to really get me.
Thanks for the input ladies 🙂

I’ve been doing my own nails lately! But right after he asks I’m planning to get a pro manicure done (I’ve been waiting) 🙂 I’ve done the gel before. It’s great! But even if I paint my nails myself and use a base and topcoat it stays on for a little over a week AND I’m really had on my nails but I have really dry nail beds, so the manicurist says that’s why my polish lasts so long.

@JuniperSage: Your nails look beautiful!! I hope that ring finger is not lacking for long!
I was planning to go get pedicures with some friends on Saturday, but I think I need to make it a mani/pedi 😉

I did the same thing, kept my nails long and healthy while waiting for the ring. Then when I sent pics to my mom she said, “your nails look awesome, you totally knew it was coming.”

Yep I get Gells done on my nails whenever I go on vacation or for special occasions such as weddings… I did mine 3 weeks and + ago with Red glitter ombre which was very festive! I am getting it done again tomorrow! Exciting! I think I’ma do another Glitter ombre with Gold!!! I want some festive colors!

I actually just got a manicure today with the Gelish brand polish. It basically looks just like regular polish but hardens with UV lights and you do not have to wait for it to dry. It lasts 2-3 weeks without chipping and can go longer. Personally my nails go very quickly so I do not like to go more than 2 weeks.
I am not as close to you as having a ring but I keep mine looking good too just in case 🙂
FYI- You should go back to the nail salon if you want it removed. It is removed using Acetone and can be done at home but I highly recommend against it because you can damage your nails if it is done incorrect. When done properly it will not.

I’ve had gel nails done for a long time now… and it just so happened that I got a fill done right before we were engaged so they were nice and fresh. this was just pure luck… I didn’t know it was coming so soon!

I have had Shellac – and it lasts a long time on me! I’m not sure what the difference is between Shellac and Gelish, just that the salon I go to only does Shellac. I am really hard on my nails, and a regular manicure lasts about a week (if I’m lucky). Right now I have regular polish (Zoya with OPI glitter stuff on top) and it’s been on like 5 days with 2 teeny chips at the end (not noticable unless you are really looking for it). I just wish Shellac had more shades. I have a ton of friends that love it though. I had to go to the salon to get it off and it really dried out my hands. Have a good Christmas!!

how funny this was such a huge concern of mine before i was engaged. the one thing i told my husband was that if he ever planned on proposing to me was to please make sure my nails were done. Im always so embarrased of my hands since i have a bad habot of biting my nails:( well we went up to santa fe, nm to visit our families and i had a girls day with my mom and got our nails done and everything. He proposed that night and it was all part of his plan for my moms and I spa day.

@babebabe06: Haha! I told my fiance the same thing! Like a couple weeks before he proposed I said, “Please don’t propose when my nails are ugly.” Joking of course. I still would have been overjoyed even if I happened to have ugly nails, but luckily I didn’t.
