i was trying to remember how we did ours – i know our mothers lit the candles so we didnt have to use a lighter. They each had a taper candle that was lit for them (i’m assuming by a priest or alterboy – we got married in the catholic church) and from their they lit their respective candles and they burned through the ceremony until it was our turn to go light the one in the middle – when we got up there the priest handed us each a taper candle, we each lit our tapered candle using our the candle our mothers lit, then we lit the center one together – maybe the pictures will explain better?

The only suggestion i have is to have those 2 taper candles near the unity candle and maybe have another small votive candle burning so you can use it to light it without the horrible clicking sound?

My Church has candles that are already lit near the alter, so I plan on having my mother and Future Mother-In-Law take long matches light it on the already lit candles in the church and light my candles, then during the ceremony my Fiance and I will take those candles and together light the unity candle.

My venue had a hidden jar candle near the altar-like thing, and our moms lit their taper candles from that. That way there aren’t any matches or barbecue lighters, lol.
