It’s been awhile but I wanna say it came up to $2100AUD. It was an Alfred Angelo Disney ballgown but I had some custom changes done to it, namely extra boning in the bodice and extending my train from chapel to semi-cathedral length. The normal RRP would’ve been around $1699 or $1799AUD. My bridal salon had alterations set to $350AUD which I believe is pretty much the avg price in Sydney. All up, everything came up to ~$2400AUD.

OP, if “everyone is saying you spent too much”, then it’s probably most helpful for you to evaluate your purchase in terms of % of overall wedding budget, or % of yearly disposable income (how much of your salary is leftover after you pay all your bills, taxes, savings).

All the bees on here have different incomes and different budgets, so a huge variety of dress prices is to be expected.

My wedding dress was a little on the high side (for my budget, in my opinion), at around 12% of the total wedding budget. But I was able to easily afford it out of my disposable income, so I didn’t worry about it for a moment.

$500 (it was a sample, reduced from $1400) and then $350 in alterations which was a capped price.  I got lucky and it had pretty much never been tried on as it wasn’t strapless, which it seemed that most brides wanted!  So it was in perfect condition.

Dress was $250 (BHLDN) and alterations were $60. I’m having a simple beach wedding, so it’s not a big, intricate dress.

With alterations and the veil it was $10,950.

ETA: I had preemptively saved money for a while because I know I’m picky as hell. Also we didn’t have to pay for our venue so that portion of our wedding budget went towards my dress (with FI’s blessing…he’s a good sport).

heatherallison :  $500, including tax but not including alterations. I got a discontinued dress, though, when it was deeply discounted. I think originally it was $2800.
