We are having a Wine/Champagne reception (with plenty of non-alcoholic options) but we were trying to figure out how many bottles we need to purchase from our venue. According to a lot of drink calculators we will need around 25-30 bottle of wine for 150 gursts. And that isn’t including the champagne for the toast. But in the end I will be spending $600-$700 on wine and champagne alone! That was NOT in my budget. Unfortualety I can’t just nix the wine or champagne. I would have one big upset family if I did that. So is there a way to reduce the amount of wine needed? Do I really have to have it available the entire reception? Are people really going to drink 2-3 glasses of wine each? Help!!

That is probably about the right number of bottles. Can you choose cheaper wine? Trader Joes is good wine and would be a lot cheaper. There are a ton of really inexpensive options out there, I would start there.

My DOC suggested 3 cases so 36 bottles of wine by my 150 person reception so I think that number is about right (we are serving beer too). I was going to suggest Trader Joe’s as well to save some money!

@tksjewelry: I can’t. I HAVE to use the wine provided by our venue… which SUCKS!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Can you get some kegs or offset the costs by buying beer? That’s what we are doing, or plan to do I should say.
