If you’re willing to compromise on one of the C’s, you might be able to get one in the slightly <$15,000 range.

In our case, we compromised on color and got a 1.6 carat, GIA excellent cut, symmetry and polish, H color, VS1 for about $16k from Blue Nile. It sparkles like a mofo and I never see a hint of color!

Here’s a pic:

I am upgrading before my wedding too! probably a 1.4-1.6 carat diamond. I currently have a 1 carat, triple x, h, SI2… SI2 gets a bad reputation, but you cannot see a thing because the only inclusion is set under my prong. I am not as color sensitive, but I would highly recommend looking in the SI range to save some money. If you go with a triple x, then you shuldn’t be able to see a thing! You would definitely be able to keep it under $15k if you went with an SI clarity.

My 1.5 carat hearts and arrows, is about $12,000.  We saved a lot by going down to H.  I had a G prior, and I honestly cannot tell a difference between the G and H.
