Hi there hive – here’s my question: what is a reasonable fee for our officiants?
We are having an interfaith ceremony at a country club and both an imam and a priest will be officiating. The priest told me that he usually gets $1000 for ceremonies like ours, and we should pay the imam the same to be fair.
I definitely didn’t budget $2000 for officiant fees so I’m kinda stressing out. Has anyone done a ceremony like our and how much did you pay the officiants? Does this sound like a reasonable rate to you or is it more than average? I know when my sister got married at our local Catholic church she paid the priest $200 after paying another $200 in fees to the church itself.

The officiants in our area are typically about $250, and I thought that THAT was expensive based on what I’ve heard from the Bee! (Lots of people say they gave $100ish.)

Hmmmm, this seems pretty high to me. If you’re a member of a house of worship the clergy there usually does it for a ‘donation’ to the congregation that is much smaller than that…..but I’m really not sure if you’re not a member of officiant’s congregation.

@rubia12: Your priest charges? I was raised Catholic and priests NEVER charged and I am converting to Greek Orthodox and the priests NEVER charge. Donations are appreciated and given. So idk b/c this sounds odd to me I have never heard of a priest requiring money to marry you.

The only charges I’m receiving is for use of the church and that’s only $450. My priest’s services are free, but we are encouraged to give a donation to him and the congregation as a whole. $1000? Wowza. Maybe contact your congregation/diocese directly to see what they can do.

@rubia12: Hi I am looking for an imam to perform an interfaith nikah and see that you at least found one imam, though charging $1000. I was wondering if you could provide the contact information to me. Did you decide to go with him, or were you able to find someone for a more reasonable fee?
