I love primer for “fancy makeup”. I don’t use it every day but I practice with it sometimes. I use Benefits “Prime Time” and it is awesome. It is really light, not greasy and fills large pores with ease. I let it dry for 5-10 minutes before applying my base and it holds base and powder so much longer. If you want a porcelain looking finish, primer will definitely help you out.

It will definitely help with a porcelain looking finish.

I usually only will wear primer when I know I’m going to take pictures. The primer I use is Fyrinnae silica gel primer because it’s all natural.

Sephora-brand primer is less than ten dollars and works great. I also only use it for special events, but it does work well.

For cheaper alternatives, Hard Candy Sheer Envy primer is a great primer, also, you can even use Monostat chafing gel as a primer (I know, it sounds weird but totally works) There are a ton of higher end primers, but I dont see why you should spend the money on expensive primers when drugstore primers work just as well. There’s also one by Rimmel, which I haven’t tried, and the Wet n Wild match perfect (or something like that) foundation is light coverage, but it has a built in primer in it, so I use that as a primer sometimes under my foundation and it works well also.

You might also look into using Monistat chafing gel. I know it sounds weird, but it really works. The formula is very similar to a lot of the high-end facial primers.

Silicone based primers may stop the mineral make-up from absorbing into your skin as mineral make-up needs to be absorbed to last longer and to give skin the desired look. For liquid and cream foundations smashbox is one of the best on the market.

I use Monistat Chaffing Gel as others suggested. It is the exact ingredient make up as Smashbox and works great!

I used it under Smashbox Photofinish foundation… the best I’ve found for me (great coverage & light weight) OR if I’m having a light make-up day I wear it under my Bare Minerals… it does help both stay longer. =)

My makeup bag is filled with stuff from Sephora, but I save money where I can to keep justifying the splurges that don’t have drug store equivalents – and also use the Monistat chafing gel as my primer.  It’s just as good as all the Smashbox primer I’ve ever used because it has the same main ingredient, and the only ingredients it doesn’t have that the other things are needless things that make it “smell good” or give it unnecessary color.  Monistat all the way!

DHC velvet skin coat. It’s amazing. Sets makeup for hours with little to no shine. Feels great and is healthy for you, too! I’ve used it for years.

I love Dr. Brandt Pores No More primer (they also have a tinted option but I prefer without) it really makes your pores disappear

I also like Smashbox Photofinish and Philosophy Never Let Them See You Shine
