They announced today and did their official photocall. I enjoy watching things about royals and I’m excited to see what Meghan brings to the role (and how her background as an actress will help her). The ring is a three stone (two from Diana’s collection and one from Botswana) and appears to be set in yellow gold. It’s lovely on her hand.

If I was her I’d have wanted all 3 diamonds to have been Diana’s. Lovely ring though.
Looking forward to the wedding, got my invite, just choosing my fascinator.

I’m so weirdly happy about this, like I was weirdly so happy for Serena William’s wedding last week. Because, not like I know them, but I’m a romantic at heart! I love seeing people being happy and in love.
They (Harry and Meghan) are both gorgeous, the ring is gorgeous, and I hope everything works out perfectly for them.

I love her ring! I think it’s nice that only two of the diamonds are Diana’s and one is new and just for her.

It’s so exciting! Rumor has it they are planning a non traditional wedding in the sping! I wonder what it will be like? I wonder what american traditions she’ll bring to a british royal wedding. I think it’s fitting that she has diamonds instead of a gemstone, it seems more american in style.

I heard about this and was honestly more excited about this engagement than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lol. I’m so happy for them!
Selfishly… I hope they broadcast some of it 🙂

same! I didnt get into Kate and William’s and not like i followed Meghan or Harry closely before this 🤣 but I’m so excited! I think Meghan is so gorgeous and maybe a little more relatable since she’s from the US. 🤷🏼♀️

I’m really curious about what non-traditional will look like for them. I’m guessing it won’t be Off-beat Bride level but maybe some clearly American wedding practices will be included… now I’m going to be wondering about that for a while! And I love her ring. The size and style both work really well on her hand.
I’m honestly looking forward to being inundated with wedding coverage and hoping that her being American will make our media more interested. I was mildly curious about Will and Kate and I thought their engagement interview was sweet and well done but Kate seems to be her most comfortable and confident at sporting events- she really shines there and I’m not so much interested in those. Beautiful clothes and elegant settings seem like they might be Meghan’s arena AND she’s got something to say when she gets there. I hope that bears out.
I agree about the idea of two diamonds being Diana’s and one being new and just for Meghan. I even like the idea that she might have had some input in the selection.
I’ll join you in the fascinator selection. I think I might go with something blue and light that brings to mind birds and the sky. I really liked the structural bow monstrosity that Beatrice wore to William’s wedding. I also loved the fascinator that Beatrice Borromeo wore to Felix of Luxembourg’s wedding.

As a UK bee I am going to be super interested in how this wedding differs to Wills and Kate’s. It will be interesting that’s for sure. I am not really into the royals but I do have a soft spot for Harry and she is going to make a beautiful bride. I am surpise though that it has been allowed what with her being an “american actress”.

Right? But Charles sort of paved the way for it when he married Camilla. There has definitely been an attitude shit since Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend.

Not just American and an actress, but previously divorced, too! I think the Royals had to relax that stuff, the world is very different now than it was in the past.
The Queen isn’t a prude, and she is more progressive than you would think.

I heard on the news that the center stone is from Botswana, where they have vacationed together several times, so it has meaning for them. I like that the ring is a mix of old and new stones. They look cute together and seem very happy, so I wish them the best.

I love that ring!
Thank god for a young happy beautiful royal couple wedding to distract us a little bit, in the dumpster fire that is 2017 and the foreseeable future….. I think this was the first time in about 1.5 years that I looked at the news headlines and smiled!

I wonder if some of that previous rigidity was about fear of potential harm to the “institution” since so many countries have done away with their royals in the last however many years. It would be terrible to take over your family’s established, thousand year old business (even if its basic premise does harm to other peoples and nations) and then have it all go to crap on your watch! But that same rigidity actually seems to have contributed to a lot of the instability they’ve dealt with, too.
Also- a lot of people seem really invested in the queen and the kingdom and their own royalty-adjacent roles. But I bet the queen is the most relaxed in that regard.
I know the feeling. Not that anyone needs to live their lives for my pleasure and distraction, but I was really happy to see the news and have something to look forward to rather than another addition to the “Must Be Fixed ASAP!” list.

I love her. I am thrilled that Harry has fallen in love with a “commoner”, American, divorcee and biracial woman. I think she is so beautiful and smart and independent and I wish them all the best. I really hope they broadcast the wedding or at least show pictures of it. I can’t wait to see her as a bride!
