I’d never heard that a princess cut doesn’t sparkle as much! Mine is, and it sparkles more than my sister’s round diamond. I’m in love with my ring, and I can’t imagine regretting going with a princess!

I have a princess cut and I love it. It sparkles like crazy, just a million teeny sparkles rather than the big flat flashing of a round stone or a cushion cut.

Only issue is the corners…tends to be sharp! Sometimes I take it off when holding my baby niece as I don’t want to poke her in the head. I don’t know if I’d have the same issue with a round stone or cushioncut.

grapefruitloveQuestion- would you ladies have still gone with a cushion cut if it was a solitaire?

Most definately! I would have been even more stringent on getting a cushion then!

Here’s a picture from PriceScope of a solitaire I love:

There’s another I saw on PriceScope that I really liked that I’m trying to find a picture of, I’ll post it if/when I find it.

There are different types of cushion cut. A vintage cushion cut will have larger facets, a hearts & arrows cushion will have many little sparkles like you are describing. (Round stones also can have different cuts, round brilliant is the most common, but there are hearts & arrows rounds as well.)

@grapefruitlove: That was my original intention. Fh was just very much set on having it flanked with sapphires

@KatNYC2011: I LOVE your ring, it’s exactly what I hope my bf gets for me!

One thing about cushions like other people have said is that depending on the way it’s cut, the face of it can look small, especially when compared to other stones of the same carat weight.  I feel like the more rectangular looking cushions look more true to size than the square ones.  I also have found that cushions are more expensive for the same carat weight as other stones.  And I do feel that they are becoming more and more popular (which I hate) and princesses are not as popular as they used to be.  That said, I still love cushions and when I do get engaged, I hope this is what I get.  I’m kind of partial to rounds too, so classy, elegant and timeless, so I won’t be mad if I get one of those 😉

I have a princess cut and it does sparkle like crazy, at least to me :-).  I’ve always loved the princess cut, and Fiance got it for me.  At first, I started imagining all the other cuts that I hadn’t had the chance to look at (since I didn’t have much input in my ring at all), but now I don’t regret a thing.  I love it!  It always sparkles in the sun!

@mzjaybee: Thank you! I LOVE it as well.

Fiance got it from adiamor.com and got a fantastic diamond for a really good price and the service was fantastic.

I really like antique cuts with the cushions. Those chunky facets… yum.

@grapefruitlove: Cushion is the new princess. BUT regardless of popularity…. I would go with cushion bc it has that vinatage look and I just love the way cushion solitaires look. I went back and forth between round, princess, and cushion for months. I decided on round but cushion was the runner up.

I definitely had the mindset that I wanted a Princess cut. At one point when Fiance and I were looking at rings, I had a princess and cushion cut diamond on side by side which was neat to compare. I left the decision up to him and he picked out a different cushion cut ring which I love.

I’m in the same boat as you! Except I’ve thrown the radiant cut in there as well. 🙂 I’m so indecisive so I just gave my SO those three options and I’m leaving it up to him. I think that if you love both, let you SO decide, you’ll be happy with either and the choice will be off of your hands!
