So 4 weeks after I broke off my engagement I decided to join OKC to just sort of put myself out there and not be home eating Ben and Jerry’s and watching Pride and Prejudice on repeat. All 6 hours on repeat. My mom said I needed first date practice. I also think writing about my first dates on here can be sort of cathartic.
Being the new girl on a dating website sort of feels like having roses thrown at your face and getting the thorns stuck in your hair. But this guys seemed nice and cute in his photos.
He seemed pretty socially awkward at times and mentioned that he had been on 40 okc dates within the last year and never really had any luck. I chalked that up to him being a British transplant and having been in all boys boarding school since he was 7. I’m sure that shit fucks you up.
I have a soft spot for socially awkward geeks and this guy hit all the marks. Oxford PhD with a lab at NYU Med Center. The problem with spending the whole day looking at rats though is he had a hard time judging social cues. As in, no, I don’t want to talk about your fetlife account and your ~blog about all those OKC dates you went on~. And no, I don’t care that you have a separate account where you can track down extra kinky girls.
Other than the lack of social grace, he seemed very nice and obviously smart. Even if their was no spark I was considering that I may be too picky and that I should give this guy a 2nd date just to be sure.
Then when we were walking to the subway he blurted out that I was “really hot” and then proceeded to have a panic attack in the middle of E 14th St. This left me trying to look away as he threw up into a bin for about 10min.
I don’t want to be shallow about his anxiety but I feel a relationship is futile if he isn’t great about meeting new people. I have a very gregarious family and I myself am a very outgoing person so a partner that has breakdowns in social situations is not ideal.

LOL What a great story. I once went out with a guy who broke out into hives on our first date because he was so nervous. I made the mistake of thinking it was cute that he was nervous, and ended up in a relationship with a guy with big mental issues. I’d skip the second date if I were you!

@princesslettuce14: I’m gonna go ahead and say this doesn’t sound like a match!

I think you should have a blog. Seriously. This could get major hits.

@princesslettuce14: How absurd. You would think after 40 first dates in one year he would lose some nervousness and anxiety.

You are so sexy you made him vomit. I think that’s a compliment?

I think you have more adventures with wonderful men ahead of you. I wouldn’t take a second date with him. Poor guy though needs to do some work on himself.

You know what, online dating + NYC area make for HILARIOUS stories. Even when I was online dating in another large city I definitely got my share of funny experiences out of it. Poor guy. I would keep going on dates with many guys and enjoy the experience if you can!

@princesslettuce14: Awesome job getting back out there! OKC has lots of winners, just like it has lots of losers — and this one makes a great story. The date before I met my Fiance, I had a guy from OKC try to kiss me (talk about missing social cues) and proceeded to try and fish for my uvula with his tongue while I was trying to push him away. He also tried to tell me throughout dinner that girls play with their hair when they like someone. I do it when I’m bored and/or anxious. What a winner.

I have several friends who date from OKC – this seems pretty par for the course :p They’ve told me some seriously weird stories. Every once in awhile, though, they’ve met some really interesting people. Hopefully the next time will go better 🙂
