Prices will vary. Part of the charge is the time put into getting the print ready (retouching etc). You pay for time over the actual print.

I dont know any photographer that charges more for “wedding prints”. A print price is a print price the subject is irrelevant.

They should be the same. 🙂 There are exceptions to the rules but…

Mine are reasonable but way more than Walmart prices but the quality is 100 times better. You’ll get some nice prints from a photographer because we use professional services.

Print rights were included in our package, so we did not have to pay for prints through our photographer, we can print anywhere. The photographer prints ranged from $5 for a 4×6 to $400 some for a canvas. I would look into getting print rights, it will save you money in the long run if you plan on printing the pictures!

@missapis:  I second this.  We got 250 free 4X6 prints from our photographer, but we also got the printing rights to all of our pictures so we can get them printed anywhere.

I made sure to get a package including a disk of all photos for this very reason. I think you should try to arrange something similar with your photographer so you don’t get nickel and dimed to death over prints.

Our photographer offers the option to order prints through her at cost.  When we ordered prints of our e-pics, it was $1.50 per 4×6 or $2.50 per 5×7.

@BeeG35:  If you’re getting the DVD, I would just shop around for a good affordable printer.

@LittleRiver:  Wow that is an awesome deal!

If you have print rights just take the photos to staples or another printer.

If we wanted to buy prints through our photographer they were ridiculously expensive, like $20 for a 5×7. However, we have the DVD and rights to print our photos so we don’t have to go through them.

The prints you get from your photographer are going to be MUCH better quality that you will get from any consumer lab, especially walmart/shutterfly and the like. They are printed on high quality photo paper and dyesub inks on a calibrated printer so colors will be perfect and the print wont fade after a couple of years. Also, most photographers will spend the time to retouch every part of the image so it looks perfect.
