Life is drab and stressful right now and I’m not enjoying the hurdles we have been thrown but we’re coping and we know that the future is going to get better. Really soon. It’s just frustrating to jump through the hurdles of making enough money to buy a home and figuring out where the heck we even want to plant our roots. Being an adult, not as awesome as I’d hoped for.
But it’s still good, and we’re still rolling. And there’s been talk lately. Lots of talk. About babies. About working enough hours to get mat leave and buying a child friendly vehicle and schools and me being pregnant (those conversations are still a shocker for me coming out of his mouth! It just doesn’t feel real)
And by the sounds of things, it sounds like it’s like a 1-2 year plan thing. The wedding is in a little more than a year and I strongly sense that the attempts at conception will not be far behind. I’m sure you all know what that means ๐
I know this place is full of knowledge and experience so I want to know, from everyone, what the heck should I think about? What can I do to make sure I’m healthy and fit for this? What do I read?
I need a good list and I like lists. Im not going to go buy a crib tomorrow or anything but I like to be well prepared! A little knowledge can’t hurt right?
Throw it at me bees!

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Maybe start tracking your cycles, or at least learn about them so when you go off of birth control (if you are on it) you know what’s going on. Get healthy – now is the time to eat well, exercise and all that good stuff. Rumor has it the healthier you are pre-pregnancy the easier it is to get back in shape afterwards. Start taking a prenatal vitamin a few months before you are TTC.
That’s really about it. Enjoy this time ๐

lalalyanne: I tame my baby fever and my compulsive need to plan with research. I spend my time frequenting pregnancy and parenting blogs for advice on which books are best (pregnancy and parenting) and what gear is best. I really like pregnantchicken.com and wise baby which is tons of reviews about baby products but, if you are still a year away from TTC, maybe just focus on the wedding at hand and preparing your home for a child. We are planning on TTC starting in January so we have been planning a trip for December and trying to stack in the overtime and pay off some bills.

Go for a precheck at your OBGYN. They will help you devise a good plan. I had a great visit with mine in Jan as we were planning on TTC in August. Then my pregnancy symptoms started the next day ๐
Also, if s/he okays it, go on a prenatal now. In my experience, when you know you will be TTC, you tend to be a little more lax. It felt great when we had our surprise BFP that I was already on prenatals because we were planning for August.
If you are overweight (I am) try and get to a healthy BMI. Ditto with underweight. But don’t punish yourself.
Good luck ๐
