@HisNightOwl2014:  Honestly, I think no matter what has hapened, some people are really private with the internet and others are very open! I’ve been around these parts a few years and it ebbs and flows!

Maybe you and some others are just hyper aware since there has been some recent deletion policy concerns 😉

Probably because it’s the wise thing to do.

Oh just some spillage of drama happened on the WB this past week (dont ask me what happened because I don’t care to really describe what happened). So its got a lot of people up in arms. I wouldn’t be too worried about it though. Just keep in mind that this is the internet and anything you post on a public (or even private really) forum can be traced back to you if you aren’t careful. 🙂

I’m too lazy to write a bio, but honestly, I have a blog that I’ve posted here before that has my first and last name on it. There was a thread for future last names that I posted on. My avatar is a picture of me. My blog links to my Twitter account, which has my city and state on it. I don’t really care, personally. There are worse things about people on the internet–there are many sites that have people’s names and addresses if you search for them (spokeo.com is one of them).

Because linking your real life with your internet life has never and will never be a good idea. I guess it took some of the drama of this weekend for people to realize that, but it has always never been a good idea.

@HisNightOwl2014:  Oh ok, I interpreted some of the post of ‘why is everyone so worried about privacy now’ as in what brought the concern to the surface.

I don’t know exactly what happened, must have missed it but I think I have an idea.

However, its my general policy not to overshare personal deets. Some people are very comfortable sharing face photos, real names, real Facebook accounts, right away when they join somewhere. Well, that’s the sort of thing I might warm up to or might not, generally I don’t start out sharing it when I join a new community (I’m fairly new here). The reason? Its easier to release more info later than try to take it back, and if it’s not very necessary to the discussion, there aren’t many benefits to sharing info that you might later feel was more than you really wanted out there.

I don’t have a bio because I don’t feel important enough to have one.

I almost never do bios, but it’s not because of privacy issues. It’s more of an “I don’t care” issue.

The facebook thing is stalkerish though, at the very least, it invites stalker behavior. I never linked my facebook account because I don’t like linking all my internet social sites. If I want to be fb friends with someone from another website, I’ll give them my information personally.

Honestly, I had a really bad experience in college when I posted a lot on a law school forum. My ex’s family was crazy and stalked me online for awhile, then would use what I wrote against me! It was so annoying and I’ve been more careful since…

Maybe a wierd question, but what is the purpose of a bio? Why do a Bio instead of a Gallery, DIY, or Board post?
