- Wedding: August 2010
Finally, I received the CD of pics, so now here’s my pro-pics
First – the good and the not so good
The good-
I got married!!
The weather was GORGEOUS – not even a sprinkle, even with 30% of rain forecasted that morning!
The scenery was breathtaking – the dock, the lake, mountains, trees. We spent $0 on decorating the ceremony site since it was so naturally beautiful.
It was a very small wedding (16 guests total), so it felt very intimate and closeknit, and we were able to spend time with everyone.
The food and cake was yummy! I’ve heard so many stories about brides not eating, but I ate a TON during my wedding- all the yummy hor d’eourves, the dinner, the cake, I was stuffed (and it made breathing in my top-with-boning dress harder, lol)!
I loved my dress, veil, hair, makeup, flowers, etc.
For the most part, everything ran smoothly
I loved my keds! They were cute and saved my feet.
People mingled! And both my family and his family met and conversed and our friends all met and talked and got along!
The day before the wedding, I had a “bachelorette” get together with 3 of my female friends and we went horseback riding, lunch, and ice cream. It was graet and I had of fun just hanging out with my friends. No strippers or alcohol needed!
We both wrote our own vows and that was the best part of the ceremony. We also had Dr Seuss in our ceremony, that was a close second.
We kept it simple. We didn’t have ceremony decorations, real flowers (ours were silk), centerpieces, favors, music, fancy silverware, assigned seating, cake topper, fancy food like filet mignon (althought we did had NY steak as one of the dinner choices), extra desserts (we have cake, after all), DJs, or any of that traditional stuff like dancing or bouquet toss or reception games, but it was just fine for us and turned out great.
Our guestbook frame was great for our sized group, we didn’t even get the normal sized one, we got the “rehearsal dinner” sized one and it was great.
Walking around in a public park and restaurant, you encounter a TON of people telling you that you’re beautiful and congratulations, it makes you feel special and like a princess
The not as good-
We were running during the get ready moment. I wanted my friends to come around 130 but they didn’t end up coming until 2-230, and they had to rush to get ready themselves as well as help me so we didn’t have too many pics to just bond and get ready in a relaxed manor. And also, we weren’t able to take as many pictures at the cabin (where we were getting ready) as I would’ve liked, since we had to rush to the ceremony.
The photographer (read more detail about it in my vendor reviews). Long story short – I do like the pictures we did receive, BUT I wish we took more fun, casual, relaxed, silly shots as well as the posed traditional shots. (He even forgot some pics I thought was pretty obvious like pictures of him reading his vows, our hands and rings together on the flowers, him and his sister, etc). I like the pics, but I don’t feel like there’s enough pics that are good/printable/framable. If I could go back I would probably hire another photographer. In addition, we weren’t super happy with him because he was very late for our first meeting without a good excuse. I think that in a few months time we might hire another photographer near our home to take some more relaxed/coupley/silly shots in our wedding attire at a local park or something.
Some miscommunications – after hor d’eourves hour we went off with the photographer to take some pictures, and we told the guests to go on and head to the restaurant for the reception dinner, but I guess they thought they had to wait for us, and so we left right after the photography and headed straight to the restaurant, and we were the first ones there! We were like where is everyone? But eventually everyone came and it was all good.
I stumbled a bit during my vows (I think I said fertility instead of fidelity) but we joked about it and it wasn’t a bit deal. Also, during the ceremony it was a bit sunny on our faces, but then again, not too much of a big deal.
I told the wedding coordinator the final guest number, but yet when we arrived at the resturant, we were missing 5 chairs. And note, we only have like 16 guests total, so I don’t know how they forgot 1/3 of the guests, but anyhow, we just had to pull up some extra chairs.
And now, what you’re all been waiting for….. the pictures!
