If I were you I would probably try to get over my issues and go the pro route. Unless you can edit the photos yourself, and have at least a little bit of photography skills I think it’s best to get the quality touch that a professional brings.

Search around for photographers who do this type of photography. They are used to making people feel comfortable in this situation, and they will have the knowledge to help you bring out your beauty and help cover up anything you aren’t comfortable with. It really won’t be as awkward as you are making it seem in your head. You’ll probably end up loving it!

    Good luck! 🙂

ETA: Photographers can’t use your photos even in their portfilio without your permission. (Some have the model release in their contract, so make sure that you discuss that up front) As long as you find a reputable photographer, and not some creeper with a camera and a van your photos shouldn’t end up on craigslist 😉

I would speak to the photographer about your concerns.  I bet you will find one that will make you comfortable and promise not to use your pictures on craigslist lol 🙂  Good luck!
