- Wedding: December 2012
I need hair and make-up advice. My wedding is at the end of December in Belize and the weather is supposed to be between in the 70’s – 80 degrees, and a bit humid. It’s just my Fiance and I so I don’t have anyone I know to help with my hair and make-up and I struggle doing it on my own even just for date nights. I have one look that I can do.
The resort we are staying at has made an appointment for me to have a local stylist come out to do my hair and make-up ($150 not including $36 tax). I’ve sent her photos of a Chignon hairstyle that I would like to have but I haven’t sent any make-up photos. The only way I can do a Chignon style (see pic) with my hair is to find a clip in hair piece in that shape (or one that can be worked into the right shape) or if I put clip in extensions all through out my hair. I don’t have experience with any kind of hair extensions. I was at the mall and found a booth that sells hair pieces and extensions. They did a Chignon style for me using a long synthetic pony tail piece that went around my own pony tail. hey also used a few small, real hair, clip ins at the top of my head to add volume. The style had great potential, they did a quick job (photos below)
but including the heavy duty hair pins that were needed to hold the hair in, the price was $230. My Fiance said get it but I feel like it’s an awful lot of money to spend and I couldn’t decide on a hair color or if the real hair pieces were necessary.
My hair is fine, shoulder length, wavy in spots and ringlets in others. It doesn’t hold a curly from a curling iron and I’ve been told by the wedding cooridnator that it’s pointless to bring a hairdryer or curling iron because they don’t make a difference on anyones hair there. That most women’s hair will dry quickly naturally and the curls won’t last unless you use a lot of product.
I feel mixed emotions about using the stylist. I think having her will take the burden off me and as long as she has photos of the looks I want we should be on the same page. I would also like to think that I’m in safe hands in terms of her knowing what styling techniques work on hair, in their climate, as well as make-up. One tip the wedding coordinator gave about make-up was to use mineral foundation because it works best with the humidity. On the other hand I’m hesitant to use the stylist since I won’t be able to have a prewedding hair and make-up trial run with her. I fear that I may come out looking like a stranger on my wedding day but if I do it all on my own at least I’ll look like me.
In the end of my worry cycle I wonder why even worry about having my hair and make-up done, after all it’s Belize. They are so relaxed there. Just go with the flow…Eithe way though, I need to do something with my hair and make-up but why pay money when all I want is a simple, messy bun and simple make-up?
