Finally a bfp after months of infertility treatments and had my 4w6d blood draw and was told it was most likely ectopic. I am crushed. I go back on Monday for another blood and ultrasound to confirm. I was told my hcg was 96 (should be 2000), however my progesterone was great at 34. I guess I am looking for hope maybe I am just a slow riser (loooooooong shot I know). Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

The number doesn’t hold much meaning, the doubling of it in 48 hours does. Stay calm, I know it’s hard. Monday will come fast. Do something nice for yourself this weekend. GL.

mrs2b70 : I’m confused how they think it may be ectopic by a blood draw at 4 weeks? I know a couple of people who have had them and they didn’t know until they had pain and could see it on U/S. I’m not sure if it’s different when you are getting fertility treatments.
As a PP said, it’s not about the number, it’s about the number progression.
I wouldn’t give up hope yet bee! My fingers are crossed for you!

mrs2b70 : I am sorry to hear you are going through this. I was diagnosed with a suspected ectopic a few years ago after a fertility treatment so I know how devastating it is. Like others have said…..I am wondering why they jumped to ectopic based on one hcg reading? For me my levels were super low and when they didnt double but continued to rise……that’s when they thought ectopic although they told me it could have just been an impending miscarriage but I was treated for an ectopic just in case as they didnt want to take chances. 96 for the first blood draw doesnt sound all that low to me. It sounds to me like there could still be hope….in surprised they jumped to any conclusion without a second blood draw. Like others have said…..as long as your hcg doubles all is fine! Good luck I am keeping my fingers crossed goes well for you!!!

Hi bee. I’m so sorry your doctor scared you. 96 does sound low for 4w6d, but as previous bees have said, it’s the doubling (increase by 67%, actually) that matters. My last pregnancy was a slow riser, and I was terrified of ectopic but it turned out the P supps I was on were keeping an unviable pregnancy going, and once I stopped the supps it resolved itself quickly. I assume you’re on P since you said you’ve been having fertility treatment. So your emby might be a slow starter… or it could be something like my experience. The doc can’t diagnose an ectopic from one blood draw. FX for the best for you bee. ❤️
