Meetup.com  Have you tried there? There are some good groups on that website.  Or maybe at a WB meetup in your area? Or work friends or the gym?

So are you still in college? Cos if so then college classmates can be friends too.. If you’re christian and you go to church then thats another place to meet people

Yoga, the gym, meetup, volunteer groups, church, take a class in something (music, language, art), alumni groups or get involved in local politics/issues.

I second meetup.com. My SO and I are moving out of the city to a new suburb and plan on taking full advantage of meetup to meet new people. No one really seems to talk about it, but it’s really hard to make new friends as an adult! There are all these dating websites and services to meet a significant other, but not really anything to find friends! It’s tough.

Meetup.com! Best way to meet new people that are also trying to meet new people (as opposed to a gym where many people just want to be left alone).

What about sports or hobby type things?  Here in nyc we have zogsports with everything from normal sports like football/baseball to dodgeball.  Its all in fun.  I actually have met my core group of friends from it!

I agree with some sort of hobby or class.  Are there any fun courses you can take, like a sewing course or something?  Volunteering can also be really great.

When my parents were newly married and moved to a new town, my Grandma told my mom to sidle up to someone at the meat counter and say, “Wow, look at the price of beef – want to come over and play cards?”  Haha!

meetup’s the best.  I’ve moved around lately and that is what I use.  You usally meet people in the same situation as you.

I’m in the same situation, new city with no friends. I went to try meetup.com just now. The groups in my town: polyamory enthusiasts, paddlejunkies (canoes), and a childfree group. Yeah.. I wish I lived in a bigger city.

I’ve never tried meetup – but it sounds good!

Any time that I’ve moved I’ve taken a part time job someplace fun with a good discount for a shift or two a week and I’ve made some great friends that way. It didn’t seem like work at all! 🙂

@napabridekelsey: Aw, no coed sports or anything? That is a bummer.
