I have called a bunch of stores. All I want to do is go into a store and try on a wedding dress or two to see what it would look like on me. Why can’t I do that? If I don’t see anything that I like I just want to leave and not have to worry about knowing that I have to purchase a dress when I go into the store. That store may not be the store that has the dress I like. I don’t want to make any commitments to that one store. I am getting so fed up. I am a size 28 with big hips and I do not want to buy a size 26W dress and go on a diet and still can’t get into the dress because of my hips. I know that I will loose the weight (I’m not worried about not losing the weight) but I am worried that the dress will not fit because of my hips. Even if I buy a girdle how many inches will that take off my hips, not very much at all.

@lusciouslady1978: *HUGS* Your perfect dress is out there somewhere, you just have to find it, so don’t lose hope!

I avoid all stores that require deposits or dont allow pictures.

(((HUGS))). Where in NY are you? Upstate, Downstate, Central, Western, the City, Long Island? There are lots of stores that carry large sizes – you can find one!

Wait, what? Are you saying that no dress stores in your area have dresses for you to try on or are the dress stores saying that you can’t come in and try on dresses?
If the latter is true, just call them up, make an appointment (don’t say anything about NOT wanting to buy a dress right then) and try on a dress or two. If you don’t find what you like, then leave. I don’t know any dress store that locks you into a commitment just because you tried on a dress. My friend went to 4 bridal salons in one day (I don’t suggest making an 8 hour day for dress shopping though…), and ended up buying from yet another store the next weekend.
Just make an appointment, try on a few dresses, and leave. No harm done.

Look for a Brides Against Breast Cancer event in your area. They will have so many more dresses for you, in sizes you will actually be able to try on, and it’s a really great gown-shopping experience!

You can do that! I tried on dresses at three stores and only bought from one. Just make an appointment and go try things on! I know for sure you don’t have to pay deposits to try things on at the stores I listed yesterday.

I know it’s about 4-5 hours, depending on where you live in New York, but you could come down to Maryland. I bought my dress at a plus sized bridal store in Maryland – Curvaceous Couture – http://www.curvaceouscouture.com/. They only stock plus size gowns and have large sizes up to 32. I’m a 24 myself and bought my dress there during one of their sample sales. I’d recommend checking them out.

You can go to as many stores as it takes to find the gown if your dreams. Thanks for posting brides against breast cancer I didn’t know that existed !!! Maybe I will volunteer if there is one in my area
