i have a shory LP about 9 to 10 days, so every time I O I’m supposed to take 400 mg of progesterone a day until I get my period or I get pregnant (FX!) I just had an MMC in latr September so I was on progesterone for about 8 weeks then, and now we just started TTC again and I took it for two weeks in my last TWW until my BFN.
i should add I also take B6 and work with an acupuncturist for the short LP.
BUT IT IS MAKInG ME SO FAT!!! My doc says the progesterone slows down my metabolism so that’s why I’m fat. But my clothes don’t fit anymore. I bought new pants and bras and now they don’t fit either!!! I’m eating well and exercising (running, yoga, climbing) but I shouldn’t be doing any crazy dieting right now.
im thinking of going on the ‘Fast Metabolism’ diet my mom just did (eat plenty of food but just restrict fat 2 days then carbs 2 days… no sugar or wheat or soy or dairy). Acupuncture said it was ok as long as I’m not too crazy about it.
am I the only one struggling with weight while on progesterone? It’s making me feel so gross to be a bigger size, which then makes me miserable.

BiancaBee33: maybe continue to eat well and up the workouts? if you shouldn’t be crazy dieting then anything labeled with a ‘fix’ should be off the table. Talk to a dietician ( an acutal registered dietician) who would know more about how you should eat while on meds/TTC- not you acupuncturist!!!!
I dont know how anything coinsides with TTC, but Maybe weightlifting to help turn some of the fat into muscle will make you feel better! Try crossfit, HIIT, body bump…

I struggled with progesterone and other hormonal drugs while TTC and doing IUI. It definitely sucks, and when it finally worked and I got pregnant I was really unhappy with my starting weight. To stay as healthy as possible I did beef up the amount of exercise I was doing, drank tons of water, and stopped eating after dinner. Eating late seems to be the biggest thing for me as my thyroid is slow (hypo) and I think it just doesn’t give my body time to metabolize. You could very well be retaining water too, which should go away. Good luck!!

i don’t know if i gained weight from progesterone specifiacally. but after a year of treatments (iui and ivf), i gained 10lbs.
i’m surprised your OB is telling you to stay on progesterone until AF or BFP, because AF will not come while you are on progesterone.

I ate low carb/high protein paleo while going through fertility treatments to help manage the weight gain from all of the hormones. Supposedly it’s a good diet plan for fertility in general, so that didn’t hurt in my mind.

Fast Metabolism is the only diet that works for my Fiance. I tried to do it twice (to be supportive; not to lose weight) and It was hard. I mean HARD. I didn’t last. The fruit days make me ill on the toilet for hours, and the protein days I complained constantly. He is successful and has lost up to 30 lbs, but as soon as he stops, the weight comes back. I felt like I was constantly shoving food down my throat but constantly hungry. For whatever reason, I can have a spoonfull of carbs and feel full for a full day, but healthy food? Not so much. I’m the worst dieter. I’d already given up soft drinks, and I only drink half a cup of coffee (which is half cream so really a quarter cup) each day, so the no caffeine wasn’t horrible, but he really suffers through that part.
My only suggestion is that if you are going to do it, DO NOT CHEAT. At all. It’s pretty much worthless otherwise. The rewards can be great but the process is tough. Good luck!

ajillity81: my OB put me on progesterone to make me have a period (which worked). I feel like what makes this whole process confusing is that so many of the same hormones / symptoms/ etc. have multiple uses or meanings!
