Usually an order of the ceremony along with the bridal party (who they are and their relationship to the bride/groom).  I’ve also seen them with the readings done at the ceremony printed out (bible verses etc.) and the songs/musicians playing.

We are including everything the PP said but since our wedding is also interfaith we are also including explanations of religious traditions in ours.

They are a nice remembrance, can be used as a fan, can be used as paper to pass a note during the ceremony…. Seriously, it’s nice for both sides to know ‘who is who’, it is helpful in remembering names and associating the names w/faces.  Many couples have families who do not meet until the rehearsal.

They don’t need to be fancy.  You can use colord computer paper or plain white.  You can download clip art or not.

We are putting the wedding party and order of service on ours. Since we are getting married outside, in SC, in May…we are doing program fans instead of regular programs. We figure they will be informative and useful for creating a breeze/waving any insects away.
