- Wedding: June 2012
(fyi, I used to be around here under a different username but recently switched because I had made the old one thinking I’d only use it to reply to the one thread that I wanted to that day, so I made it something silly and quick…well, I’ve stuck around, and wanted a less stupid username, heh.)
So my waiting situation is this: SO and I have been together 2 1/2 years and recently had The Discussion about marriage. We agreed we’d be engaged “within the next five years, but probably on the shorter side of that” — we want to be in a good place financially (i.e. gainfully employed and not living paycheck-to-paycheck, completely financially independent from our parents, able to afford a ring, and, most importantly, able to pay for the wedding ourselves) before we get engaged.
Well, we just found out today that he is 100% set up for a full-time job after he graduates in May!! And I’ll be graduating in June and will hopefully be employed shortly thereafter. That means…financial security! And the ability to start saving, and to cut the umbillical cords to our parents’ wallets. There’s two of our requirements down.
Now, the other half of this is that I’ve chosen the ring setting I want and decided that I want moissanite no matter how easily we might be able to afford a diamond. Altogether my dream ring will cost less than $600. And honestly, he could easily afford that now with his internship pay. So there’s another requirement down.
The other other half of this (three halves?) is that I am 100% okay with having a long engagement so that we can save up to pay for a wedding ourselves. There is our final requirement down.
So keep your fingers crossed for me, bees…an engagement could be happening a lot sooner than I had expected!! I was prepared to wait years until we were financially stable…but it looks like I might not have to anymore!!
