A friend of mine wore a bridemaid dress in white as a wedding dress. It was a white chiffon halter neck column, she looked like a grecian goddess 🙂

I’m all for people wearing whatever they want. I considered a non-bridal dress but found a great one at David’s Bridal for $99. I believe they put all dresses that are under a certain price point on sale for $99 right after Christmas.

I bought a grey dress at Macy’s. I’m not sure what occasion it was for, but it definitely wasn’t meant to be bridal. If it makes you happy go for it!

My dress wasn’t a traditional wedding dress and it was under $500, I did have a viel to make it more weddingy but it flew off in this picture. Modcloth and Asos have amazing wedding dresses that are at great prices. It’s how you feel, not how expensive your dress is.

A lot of white/ivory/champagne prom dresses look like wedding dresses to me.  They just have no train and that, quite frankly, could be an advantage (especially for a beach wedding).  I think your idea, anonkimmy, is great!

I think a prom dress as a wedding dress is fine! I wore a floor length evening gown.

I wore a white bridesmaids dress.  Got it for $150.  I would have had no problem rocking a prom dress if I had found one I liked.

Check out Windsor online. They have lots of prom dress selections and a big selection of white dresses.

I am not married, but I have been drooling over this prom dress since it came out last year:

It fits really well with one of the venues we have been considering, but not so much with the others.. Except maybe the beach? I’m not sold on that.  Either way, the dress was a nearly $700 prom dress though and I don’t think I would have paid that for a prom dress.  But since it was last years fashion I’d probably consider looking for a discounted one somewhere.  My only requirement is that I actually have a dress that makes me feel pretty.  Fiance has never seen me in a dress in the 5-1/2 years we have been together haha.

None of my friends have worn an actual wedding dress for their weddings, so I say if a dress makes you feel gorgeous and glamorous it is worth wearing on your big day.

I found a lovely ivory dress onsale at Bluefly.com that I will be wearing for my wedding dress.  It’s a little more casual than a prom dress, but its perfect for my casual backyard reception, and I think it fits your criteria of wearing a non-wedding dress as a wedding dress.  It’s hard to tell in this photo but it’s got lovely lace details, and looks much more expensive than the $220 I paid for it:

(Sorry that pic is so big!)

For my second wedding, I don’t want to do the whole big dress thing again as I really don’t want a big wedding. I kinda just want to get married if that makes sense.

I’m looking at dresses that aren’t exactly traditional wedding dresses. It’s your day, wear whatever you like.

I have a black and silver (lace overlay) dress from Windsor I wore to a formal event…. it is exactly the style I want if I ever get married. I have been watching to find something like that in ivory and silver or ivory and gold. It was fit and flair with the tiniest of train and a peekaboo back.
