I’m almost 5W pregnant and just got prescribed Prometrium for having low Progesterone (12.4) that did not increase. After taking my first dose last night, I’m finding that today all my early pregnancy symptoms are gone – no sore boobs, no heaviness in boobs, no nausea. I don’t know if Prometrium is the cause or if something Is wrong. Of course, I’ve come to you guys for your wisdom. Did any of you have early pregnancy symptoms go away after Prometrium? Do you think I should be running to the doctor’s office?

FWIW, my symptoms didn’t become consistent until around 6 weeks – before that, they would come and go a lot. One day I’d feel lots of symptoms, the next I’d feel totally normal. I can’t comment on the Prometrium, but I hope that’s all it is! Will your doctor be re-testing your levels soon to make sure the Prometrium is doing its job?

Gypsygal6: I was prescribed Prometrium for low P as well. I also had low HCG for being 6 weeks. For me, that was b/c I was miscarrying and didn’t know it yet. But I know lots of ppl with low P who get prescribed prometrium go on to have healthy pregnancies. Hopefully it does its job and helps raise your P and you won’t have any more issues. It’s still so early, I’m sure your symptoms will come back/get worse after 6 weeks or so. GL!

SadieBee: I’m going to +1 this, but, like SadieBee, I can’t speak to the Prometrium. I didn’t have MS, and my symptoms went away early in the first trimester.

I’m on progesterone (compounded, not prometrium), but progesterone is weird. It makes my PMS symptoms much less apparent, but it makes other symptoms like sore breasts, more noticable. I haven’t been pregnant while on it yet, but each month I take it the symptoms are a little different. I think it really depends on the person, so I wouldn’t worry too much 😉 You could always call and ask the nurse, just for reassurance.

Symptoms really do come and go, especially at five weeks. At this point, I know it’s awful but all you can really do is wait. Sometimes people with no symptoms at all have perfectly healthy babies – look at all those women on “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant”! And sometimes women have awful symptoms right up until they miscarry. You really just can’t predict, and it totally sucks but… That’s how it goes. Keeping my fx for you!

I haven’t taken prometrium but I can add like others, I didn’t have consistant symptoms until I was further along, almost 8+ weeks. Some days I would feel the same and others I’d feel awful. I know that’s not going to give you peace of mind so I suggest calling your Dr to ask when you get get another blood test to see if your levels have gone up.

I took prometrium for the first tri with both of my pregnancies, and I have been told that it actually will increase your symptoms. That said, I didn’t really have many symptoms with either pregnancy, except for being SUPER tired all of the time. I wouldn’t worry too much, especially at 5 weeks.

Gypsygal6: I’m on Prometrium (now 5w4d) and have been the last three cycles trying too during the tww. I was on it during the tww so don’t know if it would change your symptoms but mine aren’t that strong. Just started getting a bit of nasuea, but I don’t tend to get sore boobs (they just get fuller) I do find i’m pretty bloated but that’ just a fact of pregnancy. As long as you HCG was going up at the right intervals and you’re not spotting just keep with it. I’m sure your symptoms will be back before you know it!

I also did not have consistent symptoms until I was 8 weeks along. Before then they were random and would appear for one day and be gone the next. It was only after 8 weeks that I had symptoms every day (mine stayed until 16 weeks).
Can you call your Dr.’s office for reassurance?

Thanks to everyone who responded. I am trying not to freak out at feeling so much like my non pregnant normal self after feeling pretty much story book symptoms for 1 week. The RN at my doctor’s office was really to helpful beyond recommending that I get some bloodwork done. She was infact sort of negative, which made me pretty pessimistic. I am going to get the bloodwork done tomorrow. I won’t know until Thursday. I’m not sure how I am going to hold it together until then.

Gypsygal6: Hi twin! Just checking on you. I am having the same freak out worries over here. I had my first appointment also, and all my doctor did was prescribe prenatels. It felt like it was not a thorough exam. Out of curiosity, why did you doctor decide to prescribe Prometrium?

I was on prometrium from 3dpo because of a luteal phase defect. I never had any real pregnancy symptoms, besides fatigue and increase in appetite. I was so worried something was wrong because of my lack of symptoms, but I am now 36 weeks with a healthy baby!
