I got a ring as a gift but it wasn’t intended to be a promise ring. He got it because it matched the earrings he bought me.

Got a promise ring at 2 years… we’re are 4.5 years now and still no e-ring. Isn’t there an expiration on those things?? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have a promise ring. He likes to buy me jewelry so it came with the promise that it was the last ring that he would ever buy me that wasn’t an actual engagement ring.

My now Fiance got down on his knee and gave me a Titanium hand-made ring (he made it himself) when we first dated.  He didn’t ask me to marry him at that time but I guess it worked like a promise ring to me.  So I wore it on my ring finger for years.  I took it off about a year or more before I got engaged as I thought it’s time for a real engagement ring :-).

I think once you’re out of high school, promise rings are kind of silly. An engagement ring is a promise to marry something, a promise ring is kind of like “I promise that someday I’ll promise to marry you”.

Most people I know that got a promise ring, the relationship has ended. (Also, most people I know that got a promise ring got it in high school.)

Haha I’m in between those last two options. We had matching rings, not specifically promise rings. I wore mine on my right ring finger and he wore his on a chain around his neck. But mine was too big and I lost it (eep!) so I spontaneously bought myself a replacement one day that seemed similar.

No pic of the originals, but my replacement is this:

(I still wear it on my right hand, just can’t take pics with my left lol)

Engagement Ring is coming within the next 6 months according to our plan! Yay! ๐Ÿ˜€

@Nat_can:  I have stopped wearing my promise ring as well, only because I think it’s time for him to FULFILL the promise. Haha. I’m hoping that seeing my naked ring finger will start to sink in and make him realize its time to “put a ring on it.” ๐Ÿ™‚

My Fiance and I exchanged promise rings on our two-year anniversary. We purchased Claddaugh rings made and shipped from Ireland. It was very exciting for us and it meant a lot to us! We weren’t ready to be engaged, but we wanted a ring symbol. I still wear mine, along with my engagement ring, and Fiance moved his promise ring from his right to left hand after we got engaged.

I got one in college after we had been together for a couple of years.  We knew that we wanted to get married someday but neither were quite ready to be engaged.  I thought it was a nice token of our love, especially since we were long distance so seeing it on my finger reminded me of him.  Now that we’re engaged, I wear it on my right hand.

ETA: my right ring finger is 1 size larger than my left ring finger so when I told him I wanted my promise ring resized for my right hand, he got the hint ๐Ÿ™‚

@abbyful:  Same. They seem pretty juvenile to me.
