I got a promise ring… just not from the man i am marrying ๐Ÿ™‚  The promise ring was from my high school sweetheart and we were symbolizing our commitment.   Im surprised my Fiance even went into a jeweler to get my ring much less a promise ring.

Miss2Mrs_Beerlover Haha my guy is like that too! He didn’t actually go into a jeweller…long(ish) story…

My ring was originally a “promise ring,” I guess, even though we didn’t call it that.  We had been talking about getting engaged soon, when I saw a (vintage, inexpensive) ring I HAD to have, beause it looked almost exactly like my grandmothers and great-grandmother’s (which I can’t wear because it’s too old and delicate to be resized). So Fiance bought it for me, on the condition that it was a stand-in and he wanted to pick my e-ring and surprise me later. Well, it turned out that we decided that the time was right to get engaged a little sooner than we had planned on, and I insisted I didn’t need a new or different ring, at least for the time being, though I will probably have another later on (when we cna afford it!) that fits better with a straight wedding band, because this one is impossible! ๐Ÿ˜›

@Girasole:  That’s a great idea!!! Every anniversary another ring. Love the idea of promise rings. Where I live promise rings are unknown. Time to change that!

@X0JLYNN03:  Yep!  He gave me my promise ring about two and half years into our relationship and proposed two years after that!  I now wear my promise ring on my right hand (have to make room for the wedding band ;)).

@rodeoidahochic:  aw thank you. we didn’t have much money in high school to gift each other things Or go out on many dates, so every year he’d take me to dinner on our anniversary and gave me a ring. I have to say that for only getting one big gift a year, I was happy he picked jewelery!

My Fiance got me one! I love it and still wear it on my left hand occasionally since it’s the only finger it will fit on! It’s just too beautiful to not wear! It’s a london blue topaz with some diamonds in the halo! I love it sooo much! I wore it during the time that we knew we wanted to be engaged, but Fiance was still saving for my ring.

I had my promise ring for just over a year. I wore on my right hand after I got engaged, but I am only committed to wearing my engagement ring. I feel like every other piece of jewelry I wear changes with my outfits so I tend to give up on my other “usual” pieces because I forget to put them back on. Lazy me. Here are my rings.

Right after we moved in with each other (two whole weeks after we met), we were going through my FI’s stuff, when he pulled a little package out and asked if I wanted to hear a “funny story”. He said, “A long time ago, I was in a rough spot, and went into a little Irish antique shop randomly one day. The little old lady and I talked about true love and I decided to buy this ring for the girl I was going to marry,” and pulls out a little sterling ring. He apparently kept it with him for years without every telling anyone about it, and then asked me to try it on “just because”.

I did, it fit, and I haven’t taken it off since. I wore it on my left hand for 3 years until I got my engagement ring, and now I wear it on my right with my mom’s wedding band. ๐Ÿ™‚

A couple years ago, we decided to get matching anvil finger tattoos, so that’s what that is (it’s upside down). Not sure why we decided on anvils, but we had just gone through some pretty heavy stuff, so I love that it’s on the same finger that ring is on.

I got a promise ring about a year and a half into my relationship with my high school sweetheart. It was a very nice ring, but it was not a very nice relationship and I never gave him the chance to follow through on the whole promise thing.

My husband gave me a promise ring after we had been dating for a couple of years. We were together for quite a long time before getting engaged, so I loved having something to show he was serious about our relationship and thinking of the future. Of course, this was back in the dark ages — LOL! Looking at some of the amazing rings in this thread, it seems promise rings have changed quite a lot over the years. Still, mine is very sentimental and sweet to me. I wore it for many years — long enough that the “14K” jeweler’s mark inside is nearly worn away!

I finally grabbed a couple of pictures tonight, although not the best lighting:

And a shot of it actually on my hand! (Which is exciting, as it hasn’t fit for several years. So … yay! )
