My manager “Fred” is leaving for another job. (Small department, I’m the only employee he supervises.) My director “Bob” called me into his office today and asked if I had thought about Fred’s position. I told him I didn’t know if I was qualified because I didn’t have any management experience. Bob basically said “pfft!” and said that if he gets approval to fill the position (we’re currently on a hiring freeze, even re-hiring for positions needs to be approved by upper management), he’d let me know and encourages me to apply for the position!
This would actually be a double step-up for me. Our department structure goes (1) developer, (2) senior developer, (3) manager, (4) director. But we currently have no senior developers, so it would be a jump from developer to manager.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
