Being a plus size girl, I haven’t been able to try on very many gowns, and when I have, they haven’t fit.
I’ve had a pretty tedious dress journey so far, as I was lied to regarding the avaliability of my ‘dream gown’ in my size! Regardless, I’ve picked a new gown, and it is also Pronovias. The Pronovias Platino.
That said, I haven’t been able to locate it in stores in Australia, and thus haven’t been able to try it on – or even touch it!
I’m wondering what your experiences with Pronovias gowns have been? Do they have a good internal structure or corset? The ones I’ve seen haven’t appeared to, but most of them have been dresses with quite a high waist – They’ve just had a sort of thick elastic band in them?
Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

I’m a size 16, and I tried on a few pronovias gowns….to be honest, from all the dresses i tried on, Pronovias were definitely the worst when it came to internal structure and corseting. the boning was very flimsy and the dresses will NOT pull anything in. Also, I didn’t find any pronovias gowns with back-lacing. Back-lacing is definitely a better option for fuller figures.

Thanks, that’s what I’ve noticed too unfortunately. I’m not huge about the back-lacing style of gown, so that’s actually a plus for me, though I know it does create a skinnier waist.

What about Maggie Sottero dresses – I have the presca Marie and its fantastic!!! Great support, good boning and amazing lace.
I’m a plus size too (16) and found her dresses to be flattering and the best fit!

@lunietunie thanks so much for the suggestion, I have tried a couple of Maggie’s, and you’re right, the structure is great. I just didn’t love any 🙁 the lace gowns all had beading, which isn’t my style. I’m so picky 🙁

Hey! You sound exactly like me 5 months ago. I am also plus sized and I dreamed, dreamed, DREAMED of a Pronovias dress. Specifically, the Elie Saab for Pronovias line, the Caelum dress.
But: Pronovias dresses ARE flimsy. They are made for skinny minnie girls, who don’t need dress boning or internal dress structure.
I ended up getting a Maggie Sottero dress, too. I got a Maggie Sottero called Primavera, which has lace, and no beading. (and it comes with the matching lace veil, so you don’t have to worry about matching the laces which is so hard). Maybe you’d like it?

I have a la sposa dress and it has an internal corset. I’m small, but it does pull me in quite a bit. I believe that most of them (I say most, but I’m refering to all of the pronovias gowns I tried on) have an interior corset like this:
And me in my dress. I know I’m not plus sized whatsoever, but I promise you my waist is no where near that small in any other clothing.

@eagle I tried on that Maggie! It was beautiful, but due to my odd short waist (long legs?) the rouching hit me in an odd place, and the version I tried had beading (it must come with or without I guess). It’s such a stunning dress though – you look amazing. The Elie Saab dresses are STUNNING, but at around $12k in Australia, out of my price range!
@assherlover Yep, that’s the ‘corset’ i was talking about.. I thought it was elastic haha. You look stunning, what a beautiful elegant gown.
Thank you all so much for your feedback. i guess if I’m so stuck on the gowns, I should just look into a separate corset. I’ll probably need one anyway, so support my 38HH chest!

@ms.sara: Thanks! It is elastic, but really thick and strong like spanx (though maybe thicker than spanx? Its been a long time since I’ve tried them)

thanks everyone, for this great post and comments. As, I am in love with lace dresses, esp. with keyhole backs…. but due to my curvy body, it doesn’t seem like they will support me and my rolls. 😉
i am plus sized (size 24), and am having trouble finding dresses that i can actually try on, plus finding one’s that are appealing to me.
so i might be looking at fit and flare dresses w/ corset back, then lace detailing. Plus i will be using my mom’s cathedral lace veil.

I’m the same size. All the dresses avalibile in a size big enough for me to try are all 1.Silk/Satin/Poly/Shiny/Scary 2. A Line 3. Have rouching.
I’ve just (last night) fallen for a Maggie, after looking at them after @eagle ‘s suggestion. It’s the Sarchi and it is a lace fit and flare dress (http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3611)
BUT OF COURSE, nowhere has it to even look at, let alone try on. Ahhhh.
