Personally, I would just stay out of it unless he asks for suggestions or brings up a proposal to you. There really isn’t a tactful way to bring it up otherwise, in my opinion. I am sure he will come up with a lovely way that your friend will adore. 🙂

My bf’s best friend likes to give him a hard time and emails him ring sites on occassion. He emailed him one day and said “Whenever your ready, I’m here” (As in here to help him). We are no where near ready financially as hard as it is to say that out loud. But I think that would be the best way to go about it giving her bf the hint. 🙂 Email something like that with your suggestion, or say something like “Hey, I’m not sure if this is something in th near future, but, when your ready I have a suggestion of how she’d love it.”

When my BFF got really serious with her boyfriend and it seemed like a proposal would happen within a year, I emailed her boyfriend (who I wasn’t even that close to honestly) and said “Hey, I know ‘H’ has pretty unique taste and it’s sometimes hard to buy for her. If you ever need help with big ticket ideas, let me know!” I felt like that gave him the idea to ask me to help when he was looking for the ring, but wasn’t pushy or putting pressure on him. Maybe there’s a way to tell him your idea for “surprising her” without specifically saying it’s a proposal idea?

By The Way… several months later the boyfriend text me asking if I could receive picture messages on my phone cause “he wanted to show me something”. He proceeded to send over a dozen ring pics. He was so all over the place that I told him to stay at the shop and I’d be right down. 😛
