I was going to wait to post this until I had my ring, but it’s taking WAY longer than I expected and I don’t want to wait anymore!
Fiance and I were on a trip in Sweden that we have been talking about (and saving for) for at least two years. It was awesome. I actually thought that he would propose on the trip, but it was our very last day on the trip and it hadn’t happened, so I figured it wasn’t going to happen. I was actually starting to wonder if I should sit him down and having a, “is this actually going to happen?” talk because we’d talked about it so much but nothing had happened!
We were staying at a hotel and I had just finished showering (yep, he waited until my hair was no longer done and my makeup was ALL off) when he asked me to grab his extra shoe lace for him from his bag. I thought he was being kind of lazy for not getting it himself, but since I was standing and he was on the bed, I figured I’d grab it. Turns out, at the end of the shoelace was a tiny little container. He had me come sit with him on the bed and open the little container. I was shaking so much, but I opened it (without dropping anything, hah!), and inside was my grandma’s ring (it’s a really pretty ring, but it’s too big for me and not quite my taste). He asked me to marry him and in my memory, I said “Of course,” but he claims I said, “Really? Are you sure?”
It turns out he’d waited until the last day to propose because I had ruined all the other time he was planning on proposing by filling them with us meeting up with people (I have family in Sweden) and he wanted to do it alone. I had no idea!
We decided to go to the hotel cafe to get a drink and a snack to celebrate. Unfortunately, the beer he picked was not very good, and the hard cider I got was pretty much sugar water! I thought it was a pretty funny ending to a wonderful moment. 😉
We’ve been engaged for just over a month now, and I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with him. 🙂
