It was July 4th weekend that we were in the friendly skies homeward bound. I was flipping through ELLE and landed on a Cartier ad. SO nonchalantly asked if I liked it. Bee’s it was their ring with the diamond tiger, HAAHAAHAAA. He then asked – if we were to get engaged, what do you I like?
WARNING: please don’t judge and please remember all feedback is welcome
Word for word I said – I don’t want an e-ring. I am too much of a brat. It would mean more to me if we could design something together. I might be wearing this ring but you’re gonna look at it too. I want it to be half me and half you.
He then told me that if he proposes he wants to present me with something. WELL OK THEN. I told him what I wanted (which is a 1.8 mm wide rose gold shared prong eternity band) – it was made – he has it – and now I am waiting to become a future Mrs
We are calling it my “proposal ring.” After we become engaged we’ll design an e-ring together. Was it ok for me to say that? I don’t want to receive an e-ring and not have an exciting over the moon reaction because I think the e-ring is ugly!!!!!
Did and of you opt for a proposal ring then e-ring?

I actually think this is a kind of cute idea, and you’re lucky he was game! This never would have occurred to me, but I’ve heard that sometimes people propose with a loose stone and they pick out (or design, or whatever) the setting together, although if you liked anything other than a round brilliant that might make it harder if you didn’t want to tell ahead of time.

oh i think that’s sooo cool!! will you be using your proposal ring as your wedding band?

All you had to say was rose gold, and I already love it! LOL

@Crebre – I am Jewish and wedding bands have to be daimond free. I ‘plan’ to go w/ a solid rose gold pipe (pretend you bend a pole and stick the ends together) band. We haven’t gotten that far yet, lol

I never thought if “proposal” ring vs. engagement ring, but now that you’ve brought it up…I guess I did have a proposal ring…well, more of a proposal “rock”. My fiance wanted me to design my own ring so that I would have exactly what I wanted. So when he proposed, he proposed with an uncut gem-grade aquamarine stone that he had superglued to a sterling silver band he picked up at Kohl’s. The idea was to have the stone cut down to size and have me pick my setting. He just wanted to have SOMETHING to put on my finger when he propsed. I wore my literal ROCK on my finger for a month or 2 while we picked out my enagement ring. I miss my rock, but LOVE my ring. We ended designing and purchasing my engagement ring and wedding band from Brilliant Earth in San Francisco…which I highly recommend by the way.
The first picture is the proposal “rock”…the second is the enagement ring.

My husband proposed with an evening watch, knowing full well (without even asking me) that I would want to design my own.
