Very sweet!

Ours was on a trip to Costa Rica, one of our last days there.  We went on a bike ride and then hiked up to this overlook (like three miles up).  Unfortunately, while hiding the bikes in the trees I’d stumbled into something itchy so was scratching and sweaty when we got to the top.  And instead of the beautiful jungle we’d just been walking through were greeted by clearcut trees at the top.  I was almost in tears looking at all the fallen trees and looking out onto the beach said I just want to go have our picnic down there where I can wash off the itchies and not have to look at fallen beauty.

Well my husband had been planning to propose on the overlook (which I had no clue about) but he saw how upset I was so we mosied back down the three miles and found our way onto this deserted beach that I first thought the path down was someone’s dirt driveway.  I was estatic, it was such a beautiful, isolated place with perfect waves.  As soon as hub saw that he got down on two knees and said many sweet things, and I started to cry and pull him off of his knees.

He didn’t have a ring because I had seemed quite apathetic about them.  So we decided to get one made out of the beach stones we’d been collecting a few days earlier.  After that we went for a swim and had a picnic and that night sat on a fence, drinking beer, watching a Costa Rican rodeo.  Quite a day!

Aww how sweet ๐Ÿ™‚  I dont think you need a huge fancy proposal, mine was at home too!  Heres mine – sorry its so long, I copied it from my bio ๐Ÿ™‚

I first have to explain what a hard time I gave my poor Fiance, because I had no idea he was planning on proposing.  It turns out that he was actually going to ask me a few days earlier because I wasnt working one night.  I totally forgot that I was working and he kept saying to get someone else to cover for me but I couldnt (we had a huge open tasting at my work).  He kept bugging me so much it briefly crossed my mind he was going to propose but I dismissed it.  I called his sister and asked what was going on because he was being so insistent and was never like that.  She said she had no idea but it turns out she called him to tell him to chill out, that I thought something was up.

On March 29 I was at a crop with my friend and cousin, scrapbooking and he had been bugging me about when I would be home.  I told him probably not til 8 or so (I had originally planned to stay until 11pm)  He said he wanted to go to a movie and dinner and if I could come home earlier, hed appreciate it.  I was actually pretty hard to deal with, not wanting to leave early, but I did (I had NO idea!).

So I got home and he came out to my car to help me get my things, but told me to leave almost everything in the car.  I insisted that I wanted to bring it up and he said to leave it.  I sighed and followed him up to my apartment.  He said he had something for me and gave me a scrapbook.  I said thanks and continued walking up the stairs because I wanted to look at inside.  He told me to open it and I complained that it was too dark and I wanted to sit down and look at it.  He told me to open it again, I complained again and then opened it.  He put together a whole scrapbook, about 10 pages of different pics of us (using tons of special scrapbook stickers, paper, etc).  He always mocks my scrapbooking so I was so impressed he put one together for me.  I thought at first I would come to the last page and it would be a proposal but there wasnt one.

We walked inside and my jaw dropped.  He had cleaned my entire aparment, hung twinkle lights from my ceiling, there was over 12 dozen roses throughout the living room (hanging from the windows, in the blinds, on the sofa, everywhere) and he had our song playing in the background.  There was a piece of scrapbook paper on the coffee table and as I walked closer (I still had NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON!) I saw that it was stickers of a boy on one knee asking a girl to marry him and in the center was a blank spot (to put a picture of him he took of himself on one knee with the ring).  I turned around, shocked, and he was on one knee asking me to marry him.  My first words were “Are you serious?”  He said yes and I started crying and blubbering “yes!”  We opened champagne he had got and I told him I didnt want to go to the movies anymore and he told me that was never the plan, he had made a reservation at a really nice restaurant for us to go to after!

I LOVE reading proposal stories. A lot of our friends have been engaged lately & Fiance said we should compile a book all about proposal stories. I’d buy it. LOL

Fiance proposed at a castle in Ireland when we were on vacation. My story’s kinda long so I won’t bore the whole thread with it but I wrote about it on my blog if anyone wants to read it:

I am still newly engaged! Well it all went down on November 20! I had a feeling it was coming! It was the day before our 2 year anniversary and we were at my parents farm for an early thanksgiving with my family! My Fiance enlisted the help of my family to go out to my favorite spot on the farm! It is on a pond that i just love, so peasceful, just you, some ducks and cows! My Fiance used the excuse that he had to go check on the dam, which was legit cause it was overflowing! So we jumped in the big 4×4 farm truck and were on our way! We got to the pond and started heading towards the dam when he turned and started going the other way, as he did I saw a bunch of rocks and told him to go towards them that it looked like something had been burried! So we drove over and after I got out of the truck and ran down the hill written in river rocks was Will You Marry Me and a heart carved on the tree! By the time Fiance got on one knee I was already yelling yes! Well he said a bunch of sweet stuff that I don’t even remember! But the best part was several weeks before we had gone and looked at stones and I picked the most perfect princess cut diamond! Well a week later the store called and told me I had to pick another one that the one I had named “Sparkley” had been sold! Well we went 45 minutes to the store picked out another one when “Sparkley” was mine all along! Sneaky…!!! Anyway I am so excited about it all and it was so sweet and the best part is nobody ever goes out to that piece of land so the Will You Marry Me should be there forever! We are getting married on the farm so I plan on getting pictures by my rocks! ๐Ÿ™‚

My proposal story is sort of funny. It took my (now) fiance 2 times to propose to me.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>Mr. KK was set to propose last weekend. He had the ring and everything. My parents were in on things and the day was set to be perfect. Except for one minor thing. I managed to be uncooperative.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>Mr. KK came over bright and early on Saturday so that we could meet my parents for the car show, dorky as it sounds its an annual event with my family, one that has been done since I was one. So since Mr. KK opted to come for this important event. He came over and was just adorable as always. Kohl the dog was thrilled to see him and I was of course going a million miles a minute. My parents were on their way to pick us up. And I was rushing poor Mr. KK. He was trying to slow me down, and talk to me, but I wanted no part of it. So we went outside to wait for my parents.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>It was beautiful for Pittsburgh. The sun was out, and it was just one of those times were you feel like… Hmmmm did my life suddenly turn into a  it is a movie set. So Mr. KK say… I have something sparkly in my pocket for you. And I’m like wha.. huh… He tells me to wait till my parents pull up, so they can see. So they pull up, he opens the door, and I get in. That was my fatal error. He opened the door so they could hear. Not for me to get in. So he admits defeat and gets in.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>My mom who lives for moments like this is so excited and turns around and goes CONGRA…. and could tell by my confused look and Mr. KK look that it did not happen.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>Mr. KK was acting odd during the 1st part of the car show, and of course I’m excited to go look at cars, because I love cars (I’ll admit I’m a nerd). And had no clue exactly what was going on.

<div id=”_mcePaste” style=”position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;”>So I finally got the whole story when we got back to my house.  To say that it killed me to know that I was thisclose to getting engaged and it didn’t happen would be an understatement. But who knows. We have my graduation for graduate school this weekend.

My Mr. was set to propose last weekend. He had the ring and everything. My parents were in on things and the day was set to be perfect. Except for one minor thing. I managed to be uncooperative.

The Mr.  came over bright and early on Saturday so that we could meet my parents for the car show, dorky as it sounds its an annual event with my family, one that has been done since I was one. So I finally got the whole story when we got back to my house.  To say that it killed me to know that I was thisclose to getting engaged and it didn’t happen would be an understatement. But who knows. We have my graduation for graduate school this weekend.

Here is how my actual proposal went down.
The Ring that started it all.

The date. November 15, 2008

The What: My Mr and I had been dating for over a year. We knew pretty early on that we had found the ‘one. And during our relationship we had discussed getting engaged at some point. I knew he had the ring. However for about the last week, he had been talking about not thinking it was the right time to get engaged, because of the upcoming holidays. Mr. stressed that he wanted to us to be able to enjoy the engagement, and he felt that because of the holiday’s we wouldn’t have time. In fact he even asked me if I’d be upset if we weren’t engaged this weekend!!! I just figured that he’d just propose when he was ready. No big deal.

Saturday, the Mr. came to my house and we were in my kitchen. Mr. mentioned something about a necklace I had on. He asked me if I thought I would still like the ring that he had gotten me. I told him of course I would, because I know how much work he put into. (He designed my ring himself.)

So Mr then says, ‘well, do you want your ring now’? My replay was, ‘ stop it, you said wanted to wait’. Mr replies, ‘well do you want the ring or not’? Of course, I told him to ‘stop being mean’. The next thing I know he’s down on one knee asking me to marry him!!!!!!! I was shocked?!!? I was of course sputtering, and asking him about how he told me he wanted to wait. He then apologized for ‘lying’ but he wanted to ‘throw me off the trail’ and give me a surprise proposal. As he says he ‘punk’d’ me. After I got over the initial shock, I of course said yes!!

I love my story Smile

We were going down to FI’s parents lake house in Georgia for labor day weekend. Fiance invited my mom as well because he thought she would have a good time there. My Fiance flew down the day before and he had told me it was because he wasnt able to get on the same flight as my mom and I. So Friday night my mom and I flew down and Fiance picked us up. It was about 10 PM when we got in and it was an hour drive to the lake from the airport. On the way there my Fiance told me that the Ritz Carlton was having a dance (which isnt unusual) and that he wanted to take me to it. I was excited because the first time I had ever come down to the lake I had BEGGED Fiance to go to a dance with me there and he refused!!! Once we got to his parents house he said that the dance had already started and he didnt want us to be late so we had to get ready ASAP and take the boat across the lake since it would be faster than driving. Fiance had brought a dress from home for me and had it dry cleaned and it was hanging in the closet! I got ready and then he came out wearing a suit! We got on the boat and headed off. Since his parents live in a cove you have to go very slow until you get to a certain point in the lake. We were mozying out of the cove listening to some Jack Johnson and relaxing. Once we got out of the cove, Fiance said we should just stop and look at the full moon. It was really beautiful over the lake. Then he gave me a single red rose and popped a bottle of champagne. We were just sitting there not speaking (FI was SO nervous). I tried to talk a little bit but it wasnt working! Then Fiance kept texting and I was like WHO ARE YOU TEXTING!?! I was getting a little irritated!! Then he said, well there’s just one more thing. ANd all of a sudden HUGE 4th of July size fireworks started going off in the sky and he said “Clare, will you marry me” down on one knee!!! I said yes and dropped down to my knees too! There was no dance so we headed back to the house where his whole family and my mom were waiting at the dock cheering and waiting with champagne!! Then we went inside and they had a cake for us that said Congratulations! It was amazing!!

For months he planned a romantic B&B getaway on Cape Cod and on our first night he took me for dinner where we sat outside in a garden with great music playing in the background.  After dinner we walked down to sit on the beach to enjoy the gorgeous night. He asked me what my favorite part was from the concert we’d gone to the night before and I told him when he sang to me. He asked if he could sing to me as we sat on the beach and I said I’d love that so he started to sing “Grow Old with You” from the Wedding Singer (it’s my ringer for him on my cell). Fireworks just happened to start going off across the harbor and it was such a clear night you could see a million stars. As he sang he seemed so nervous (which has never happened before, he’s usually kind of pompous when he sings). When he finished he told me he learned all the words because I had once said a long time ago that I would love for the man who wanted to marry me to sing it to me someday. Then he sprinkled rose petals (well actually he chucked them at me…..he was nervous) and gave me the most spectacular solitaire ring and asked me to be his wife.

I love this site!! And after reading all of your proposal stories, I wanted to share my own! (Sorry it’s kinda long!)

I got engaged this past July. I’m currently a senior in my last year of college and this past spring semester I studied abroad in Scotland. I saw my Fiance in February when I left (he came to the airport with me and my parents) and I didn’t see him until June when I came home. I had decided while abroad that I wanted to go visit him in July for his birthday out in Phoenix, Arizona, where he had moved (also in February) for a job internship.

I told him I wanted to go to the Grand Canyon while I was out there, since I had never been before. We spent the whole day walking on the South Rim and I took tons of photos. We decided we wanted to stay and watch the sunset and then afterwards we would drive back to our hotel in Sedona. We took the bus down to Hermit’s Rest, the last overlook on the Hermit’s Rest trail, and found a secluded spot by ourselves to watch the sunset.

It was really pretty and romantic with just the two of us there. I was taking pictures left and right with my camera of the sunset and of the canyon. I noticed that he seemed kind of fidgety but I didn’t think too much of it. He sat back down next to me and I put my camera away while he asked me if I wanted to go to dinner afterwards. I said yes and he pulled out his gps. I asked him where he got it from, because I knew it wasn’t in my purse, and he said with a smile, “From my pocket. I have very special pockets.” To this I laughed and rolled my eyes and said, “Oh brother.” Then I said, “What’s so special about your pockets?” to which he just smiled. So I started patting his pockets on his shorts, saying, “You’ve got keys in that one, and a box in this one, and your wallet is in your other pocket and you’ve got your phone on your hip…”

He didn’t say anything and then I started wondering why he had a box in his pocket because the whole time we were at the canyon, he never bought anything when we went into the gift shops so I tried to figure out where the box came from. I looked at him and smiling he said, “Want to find out what’s in the box?” I nodded and took the box out of his pocket. My heart was pounding and I was looking from the box to him and back again as I opened it. I opened the black velvet box and looking up at me was a diamond solitare. I was shocked and looked at him. He said to me, “I figured now would be a good time to ask you to marry me.”

I kept saying, “Oh my god!” and I was looking from him to the ring to the sunset and back again. And of course, I was crying and smiling at the same time. I asked him, “Are you going to put it on my finger?” He took the ring and slid in on, and I was crying and kissing him and looking at the ring and the sunset and the canyon when I said, “Wait!….did I say yes?” He was smiling as he said, “No, not yet,” and I replied, “Well, YES!”

It is definitely something I will never forget – he told me later that the look on my face when he proposed was the happiest moment in his life. [attachment=676241,87949] [attachment=676241,87950]

Awww! Those are all such great stories! I love them too! So here is mine…..

Well my fiance proposed to me last October. I had been planing a weekend getaway to the Smoky Moutains for quite some time. We got the most beautiful cabin in the mountains and was an absolutley perfect trip! For a long time I would talk to him about different activities we could do and where we could go hiking. One hiking spot I wanted to go to was to a water fall but could never find it. So, we went to a place called Cades Cove that is a popular valley in the mountains. You drive around in an 11 mile circle and view the mountains, get out to go into old churches and look at old grave yards and you can also stop for some hiking trails. We viewed all the churchs and decided that we would start to make our way out with out going on any hikes. But at the end we came up on a hiking trail back to a water fall that I hadnt know about. Since we couldn’t find the water fall I wanted to hike to, we decided to go on this trail instead to Abramson Falls.

So we started out not thinking it would take very long, maybe it would be about a mile hike there and back. The only thing we took with us was our car keys and a camera because I am picture crazy! We had nothing else, no cell phones, water, nothing! We get back to where there is a sign for the trail and it says that its a 4-5 hour hiking trail. DANG! We looked at each other and said screw that. But we decided to hike a little while just for the hell of it. Well, we ended up making it back to the falls after hours of walking up and down hills (we aren’t all the time hikers so it was pretty tiring).

We got there and the falls were absolutley beautiful. We climbed around, took pictures of each other in front of the water fall and then decided to find a rock to rest on before we headed back. While resting, I noticed other hikers picking rocks to sit on as well and I also noticed how every single other person was prepared for the trip. They had their lunches with sandwiches, plenty of water, and snacks. I was jelous of them because like I said earlier we had nothing! All I wanted was some water!

So I look at my man and say “Dang babe, we were really unprepaired for this 4 hour hike.”

He then stood up began to pull something out of his pocket (I was hoping it was gum or a snack) got down on one knee and said “I came prepared for something” and then he asked me to be his wife!!!!! Soooooo sweet! I didn’t know he had it in him! I think at first I didn’t answer him because I was in COMPLETE SHOCK! But I think he could tell the answer by my reaction.

This proposal was even more sweet beacause I had no idea what so ever that he was going to propose! Apparently he had been planning it since I had planned the trip. We would talk about our future and we knew we would one day get married but he always talked about how he wanted to finish school and have a carrer before we did anything. So when he proposed it was a huge suprise! I am truly blessed to have this man in my life!

My Fiance did so good. ๐Ÿ™‚  We were vacationing in Greece with his family, visiting the island of Mykonos and Santorini before heading to Athens.  The morning we were to take our boat to Santorini, Fiance told me there was a problem with his credit card and the international transaction and our hotel reservation at his parent’s resort was gone.  They were going to put us up in a “comparable hotel.”  I was really dissapointed when hearing this since I know that comparable hotels are usually much worse and we probably weren’t going to get the infamous Santorini sunset view we were so looking forward to.

We arrived in Santorini after a 4 hour delay and barely made it in time for the sunset.  We were the first stop on with the bus taxi and honestly, I was too mesmerized to notice the hotel.  All of the hotels are built into the side of the mountain so you walk down a set of stairs to get to to the “lobby” (an office) then down more stairs to each room. Once I took my eyes off of the sunset, I realized how special of a place this was.  Everyone was whispering as to not bother the other guests, the staff gave us a cool towel and water while we checked in.  We were strictly instructed to not touch our luggage, it will be brought to us and we then filled out our breakfast sheet that included champagne, homemade Greek specialties and much more.

We were led down to our room that had a private balcony with a hot tub and the most beautiful decor I’ve ever seen!  Fiance said he was stepping out to check on our luggage and came back down to surprise me even more!  He said the hotel felt so bad about our “lost” reservation at the other hotel that they were going to serve us dinner on our balcony with champagne.  Normally, I would have figured out what was going on but he had all of my friends in on what he was doing and they had convinced me that it wasn’t going to happen in Greece.

5 courses of the most amazing dinner ever and I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! The sun was gone and it was just us and the stars on our balcony completely lit with candlelight.  It told Fiance that “nothing could make this night more perfect,” to which he reached in his pocket and said “well I could think of one thing….will you marry me?”  OF COURSE I said yes and didn’t realize how loud I said it!  The entire staff (who all knew what was going on) came by to cheer us on as I was crying and laughing.  It was so perfect!!!  (and all a setup!)
