Did you get a chance to share your proposal story on the Bee?
No? Post them here!
Did you get a chance to share your proposal story on the Bee?
No? Post them here!
I’ve posted mine before, but I don’t mind doing it again… It is, after all, one of my favorite stories 🙂
I’ll start by saying I had NO idea. We had been together over 4 years at the time. We had both talked about marriage plenty of times. And of course I made my little silly, sarcastic, smart-ass comments about when he was going to “put a ring on it”, but there was no decision made, no ring shopping.
We decided spur of the moment to go on a ski trip to W. Virginia that March. They had gotten record snow that year and extended the season. We both love to ski, so neither of us had to twist the other’s arm to jump in the truck and go.
We stayed about an hour outside of SnowShoe that Friday and drove the rest of the way up the mountain Saturday morning. FI’s behavior was not out of the ordinary whatsoever. I had no reason to suspect a thing. (FI had been to SnowShoe before, I had not)
So he pulls over at a lookout over Cupp Run and Shey’s Revenge (two of the toughest ski runs on the mountain) and asks if I’d like to take some pictures. Of course I do! So I get out, but the snow where I’m standing and what has been pushed up by the plows makes it impossible to to get a good shot. So I climb up into the back of the truck. I hadn’t paid too much attention to the fact that he had climbed up with me. I was fighting the blinding sun. Snapping photos, and as I was looking at the screen and babbling something about not getting a good shot… I saw him on one knee.
My heart stopped. I swear it did. There he was. On one knee. With a ring. I think I got in one: “Are you serious!?!?!” before he told me that I was the most important thing in his life and he wanted me to be in it forever. Would I marry him?
Of course I said YES! And I cried. He cried. And we got to spend a romantic weekend together as an engaged couple with no interruptions. AND the ring was his great-grandmothers, and it’s beautiful! He also had it for 3 months!! Hidden in his damn sock drawer. I was never the wiser.
Shewwww…. sorry so long winded tonight! I just love that story! <3
AWWWW!!!!! Very sweet! Snowy proposals are so warm and touching, hehe.
And.. really.. the sock drawer? haha. he must never worry about you looking for christmas gifts 😉
@His Lil SantosGirl:It’s funny that you say that.. he would NOT put one particular gift under the tree for me this past year. He said it was hidden in the house, can you guess who the genius was who DID NOT even think to look in the damn sock drawer?
Wow. I’m a smart cookie 😉
I guess I’ll share mine since i’ve never really had the chance to on the bee… mines pretty long too, but aren’t all good stories!
It was Sept 24, 2010. It was beautiful, and loving, and perfect. Even now as I write this, I get emotional and just grin dumbly to myself…
The day started like any other day. We often go exploring around the island when we have some free time, so when I found out I didn’t have to be with a client that day, he asked me if I wanted to go exploring. I said sure. Our first stop was to the mall, haha. That was my idea not his. I wanted to pick up some perfume at Victoria’s secret. It was a free deluxe sample (not very deluxe at all) but he came with anyway cause he’s loving & patient. After the mall, we went by the health department at the hospital where he worked and picked up his paycheck. I sat in the car for about 30mins listening to my Pandora “ink spots” station and took a lil snooze. I say this because it honestly was like any other day.. nothing out of the ordinary, which made the surprise engagement that much better.
After driving about 45mins up the west side of Oahu, we reached this dirt spot that overlooked the ocean. “There” he said as he pointed to a dirt path which looked like it led to a very long hiking route. We got out of the car and began our expedition. About an hour passed when I realized that this place was way farther than I anticipated. I think he realized it too. We kept on our way, hiking along the cliffside, watching the water crash on the giant black lava rocks, talking about the past, little bits of the here and now, and eventually the future. It was a very nice hike, just very hot!
About another 45mins passed and I began to wonder, ‘where on earth are we really going.’ We passed a car in a revine that had obviously tried and failed to drive this hiking route. I don’t know why they even attempted, it was such a narrow cliff face! As we staggered on our way, feet beginning to ache and dirt accumulated on our faces we saw it… an incredibly beautiful private beach with diamond white sand, jet black rock and deep blue pools of turquoise water. I began my adventuring.
It wasnt long before I found something that caught my interest, an adorable monk seal! I watched it playing among the reef and the rocks and had to get closer. I grabbed AJ and hand and hand we ventured over to the place where the seal was. I alone then climbed up on a larger rock to get in close to the seal for a photo.
I was so excited and having so much fun that I wasn’t paying any attention to what AJ was doing. I then exclaimed, “AJ This is AWESOME!” and then he replied, “Yeah? You know what else is awesome?” And as I turned to say “what?” I saw him on this knee, with a wooden box and a beautiful sparkling ring inside it. I was awestruck. A jumble of words was coming out of my mouth so fast that I could barely speak a straight sentence. Then he said, “Kailey, will you marry me?” I couldn’t believe it! I shouted, actually shouted, “YES!” and threw my arms around him, almost knocking him off the rock and we kissed as I started to cry extremely happy tears.
He helped me to my feet as I began to regained my composure and then he told me we had to hurry and hike back because he wanted to share the fireworks in Waikiki with me that night and then go to dinner. We hustled back threw the almost 2 hr hiking trail, drove about 90mph on the 55mph H1 and made it just in time to grab a parking spot and sit on the beach by a beautiful lagoon. Fireworks were bursting, my heart was beeming and everything was simply beautiful and perfect.
After we changed, we went out to dinner, popped a bottled of champagne, and said a toast to our exciting futures.
It was an absolutely unforgettable day!! Perfect.
We even made a video ..well sorta 😉
Yalss stories are wonderful and make me get all warm inside!!
Ill share mine 🙂
Fi (BF at the time) was out of town for the weekend for one of his friends bachelor parties, so I was just cleaning house and doing my own thing. Monday came around and he was just getting home from his trip, he came in the door we said our hellos, missed you, kissed, and huged and he told me he had to go somewhere to run a errand and wouldnt let me go with him. I was kinda upset but whatever I had a friend coming over later that day to cut and highlight my hair so I didnt really say much. Well he came back from his “errand” and my friend was there doing my hair, so he was like okay im going to go over to R’s house to hang out for awhile while your getting your hair done. While getting my hair done, he texted me asking if I wanted to go to the lake and watch the sunset (we have a boat.) so of course I said yes!
Well we headed out to the lake got the boat off the trailer and we were the only boat out that day so we just turned off the boat out in the middle of the lake. He turned on some music, and I asked him “Where in the hell did you get this love CD!?” (HAHA turns out he made it just for the proposal!). The third song on the CD was our song, and a part in the song says something like “You’ve gone hungry saving for that diamond ring, I never though id see the day where you get down on one knee”, and I was messing with something on the boat and turned around and he was on his knee and that point in the song! It was so perfect!! Wouldnt have asked for a better proposal! 🙂
Sorry so long!!!
It’s so exciting that it’s almost been a year since we got engaged!!! (giggles a little)
I love this idea! 🙂 The stories are great! I get teary-eyed reading them.
So my then-girlfriend wanted to go to Las Vegas for her birthday weekend in February of 2010. I kind of had a vague idea that she might be proposing soon because I had been hinting a lot lately; we’d been together for 4 years. I wasn’t quite sure she’d do it then since she’d planned the trip for her birthday. She made reservations at Okada at the Wynn for one of our nights out (awesome sushi, BTW) as a romantic surprise. Afterwards she suggest we walk to the Bellagio for the fountain show. I didn’t really want to go, but she was a bit insistent. 😛
I had to pee really bad about halfway there, but there were no restrooms we could find on the way. When we get there, I think “maybe she’s going to propose” because she was like “We have to find a good spot to watch it” and I was like “What? Here is fine.” So then the show starts (and at this point I REALLY have to pee). Proud to Be an American comes on. I’m thinking “Is she going to propose to THIS?” I wait through the song all nervous, but thinking what a lame song it is. No proposal and the song is over.
At this point, I say “I have to pee, so let’s go.” And she says “Wait, don’t you want to see it again? I think they play different songs.” I’m like, “No, why would they play different songs? I have to pee!” So she gets all nervous and says something like “Ok, hang on…” and says something about how much she loves me and that she wants to be together forever. She pulls out a ring and I start crying and she proposes! Of course I say yes.
Then a random woman comes up to us and says something like “I just celebrated my 20 year anniversary with my wife, and I want to tell you both congratulations!” LOL. At some point another (better) song comes on with the fountain show, so I whipped out my camera and took a video of the end of it. After that show was over, we book it to a restroom. 🙂
