I’m just curious to know how many ladies out there would consider proposing to their guy. In a way I did and I don’t regret it one bit. He was confused by the mixed messages I kept giving him, and unsure how he would go about proposing, so I just took matters into my own hands.
Would/did you propose to your guy? Why not? It IS 2009 after all!

Monica proposed to Chandler.

I wouldnt have 🙂 It’s often the guys thing and it’s THEIR moment. Its one of the few things where all praise goes to him lol I guess it would depend on the guy and the couple and how “foward thinking” they are. It wouldnt have been for us though! I think if I had, hubs would have been offended.

I’m torn… I *think* I would have the guts to, but good thing I didn’t have to find out– HE popped the question first!

I would want to just get engaged already!! But my SO is really traditional and I know he wants it to be a “thing” so I can’t ruin it for him!

i didnt propose to hubby but when he tried to give me the keys to his house i told him i would not move in with him without a ring and we went shopping soon after so i kinda told him how it was going to be 🙂

I wouldn’t be scared at all, but I wouldn’t do it for 2 reasons. 1) for my guy specifically, i KNOW he’d be upset. this is his “thing” and he’s taking pride in the planning. I can’t steal his thunder. 2) for guys in general, because the society “norm” is for guys to propose, with many guys if they haven’t proposed it means they’re not ready. I wouldn’t want to push.

I guess it depends on the guy. I know some would feel hurt that they didn’t get the chance to do it.

This is my second marriage. My first marriage had an ugly ending and it took me a long time to be ready to go through that again.
He had told me several times he was going to marry me, and I kept telling him no because I just wasn’t ready. My proposal was my way of letting him know I was finally ready. It was appropriate for our relationship.

@eloping- I kind of did the same thing. My guy wanted to move in together last August (08) and I said that I wouldn’t live with someone before I was engaged and I wasn’t ready to be engaged. I started talking about buying a house in March 09 and he told me he wanted to buy a house together. We agreed to start looking for a house in March 2010, so that was my way of telling him okay– I’m ready and you have a deadline! haha. He hasn’t proposed yet but I know he’s picked a ring!

I definitely think it works for some people. It wouldn’t have for us. As alot of other posts have mentioned, my fiance would have been really upset if I would have proposed – he needed to have that!
Also, honestly, I agree with CorgiTales – generally, if a guy hasn’t done it it’s generally (not always) because he’s not ready. I think unless I knew for sure that he was ready, I would be too scared that he just didn’t want to get married yet.

Like Jyseka, this will be my second marriage and it’s also taken me a long time to be ready again. But I really want to be wooed this time around — so no, I won’t propose to him. We have had a lot of discussions on our pace and so it’s not likely to be a total surprise though.

I asked my fiance what his thoughts were on me proposing to him and he said he wouldn’t accept it because proposing is “the man’s job”. I’m all for it though!

I guess I am old school because I wouldn’t. It is perfect for your reason but I don’t think I could do it. Social norms are too ingrained in me. 😛

I agree that it depends on the guy and the situation. I think my Fiance would have been hurt if he didn’t get to do it, and also, some guys just procratinate it so much that you need to take the matter in your own hands! lol
