I think that I would just say that if you are going to use a stand-in rather than not using a ring, I’d make sure it was really, really clear that it was a stand-in. Like, a ring-pop, or something not at all traditionally engagement-y. My friend was proposed to with a stand-in, but when he opened the ring box, it wasn’t clear that it was a stand-in and she HATED it, so it ruined the moment a bit for her wondering how he got it so wrong. Obviously she was still thrilled to be proposed to and even happier when she found out her dream ring was coming, but she still laughs about how horrified she was by the ring she was presented. (FTR, her actual engagement ring was a 1 ct. round solitaire with a pave shank; her stand-in was a heart-shaped halo in yellow.)
What about just a plain band that she can use as her wedding ring if she wants? Tell her the e-ring was delayed and is coming in and now she’s got an entire set from you if that’s the route she wants to go.
There’s a famous footballer in Australia who was in the same situation as you and he proposed to his wife with a Burger Ring. She said yes 🙂
Propose with a ring pop in her favorite flavor!
Or you can just take her out on a great day and propose to her on Wednesday when the ring arrives.
