@lb1369:  I am not currently drinking any protein shakes now.  I did durring the spring and summer.  I wanted to lose more weight and build muscle.  I really didn’t get any great results.  However, I should have been counting my calories and more focused on my diet if I wanted better results.

I really like the Herbalife flavors: Cookie Dough, and Dutch Chocolate.  They are delicious, but they are $$$.

I ordered Optimum Wellness: Vanilla Ice Cream shake mix, from amazon.  It was pretty cheap and has way less calories than Herbalife.  But, it didn’t taste good.

I’ve been drinking body fortress whey protein shakes. I go with the standard vanillla and then stick it in the blender with frozen fruit and it’s always pretty tasty and hasn’t left a nasty after taste in my mouth.

I actually really like the GNC Pro Performance, and it’s not too expensive.  I have cookies and cream, chocolate, caramel, and banana at home that I rotate through so I don’t get too bored.

Optimum Nutrition gold standard whey protein is great. I usually mix the chocolate version with milk instead of water and it tastes pretty good. But they have TONS of different flavors.

I usually put a little protein powder in my morning smoothie and use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Natural Whey vanilla. I talked to a nutritionist a few months ago and she said to look for something that doesn’t have artificial flavors or sugars and this fits the bill without being too expensive. My Fiance uses it more than I do and would use the chocolate kind misspeanut mentioned above. I don’t notice a weird aftertaste but also mix in a lot of frozen fruits and veggies which may mask the taste.

I use Muscle Milk by Cytosport in Vanilla Creme.  I did a search for protein shake recipes, and came across a page that I bookmarked for a lady who sells Body By Vi, and I found 75+ protein shake recipes. I just follow the recipes with the protein powder I have.  My favorite is to take a scoop of protein powder, a tablespoon of sugar free butterscotch pudding mix (dry in the box), and a tablespoon of peanut butter.  I blend it up in our one-serving size blender, and it tastes just like a butterfinger.

As far as protein bars go, I am VERY picky.  Hands down my favorites are the Clif Builder’s Bars.  I love the Chocolate Mint.  On thing that gets me is the texture of the protein bar.  Some of those chewy ones make me want to vomit!! The Clif Bars are crumbly and it’s almost like eating a granola bar.  Plus the Chocolate Mint one tastes like the Girl Scout thin mint cookies.  YUMMY. What I was always taught is for protein shakes, post-workout you want a 2:1 carb/protein ratio.  And those Clif Builder’s are pretty close.  Oh, and they are made without artificial sweeteners.

And no I don’t work for Muscle Milk or Clif Bars.  These are just what work for me. 🙂

Do you like white chocolate macadamia cookies? Because the white chocolate macadamia clif bar takes just like the dough! I love them, and I usually hate protein bars. 1 bar is 250 calories I believe. I just had one after my workout a little bit ago 🙂
