Interesting. I wonder why they can insure being engaged as being married? And wouldn’t they want some kind of proof? It sounds great, I just don’t get the logistics of it…

@Eckle:  LOL I meant proof of the engagement, not that you exist  😉

Now I am picturing the M&M commercial where red and yellow see Santa & they say “he does exisit!” & Santa sees them and says “they do exist!” & he faints.

My allstate agent did that for me too – he didn’t put my Fiance on my insurance, but I am listed as married now and it saved me a little money. He’s a great agent.

Yep! Fiance added me right after we got engaged because I’d just gotten a new car with full coverage and my monthly was super high (no accidents/tickets/points/anything, female, over 25). The lady said to call back after we’re married because we get even more discounts.

Some insurance companies only use Single or Married as rating factors but some also consider Common-Law to be the same as Married or an in-between stage…definitely worth looking into. Also keep in mind that your commute to and from work affects your rating. So if you start taking public transit or drive a shorter distance you need to notify your company so they can lower your rating!
