So I had my first fitting today (yay!) but I feel like I was totally not prepared for it! I just didn’t think it was going to be a big deal or stressful type thing, so I went alone and didn’t take anything with me except my bra and shoes for the dress.
Well first of all, the place felt hot to me (I don’t know if it was or it was me?), and I am having a stressful week anyways and started to get really flush. Plus I was standing in my 4.5 inch heels which I have NOT practiced in enough yet… and it took about 45 min+ to finish pinning me!
I was standing there trying not to lock my knees because I was afraid I was going to faint, sweating (hott, in every sense of the word lol), i didn’t have anything to put my hair up, my feet were killing me, and i had a tiny russian woman with her head up my dress and no one there who i felt like i could say hey– i need to sit down a minute!
So in the end it was fine… i made it through, did not faint, felt much better once i had my jeans and flats on… but I was just really surprised that the fitting was so uncomfortable. I think a lot of it was nerves, but it was also just having to stand so straight (and in heels) with nothing to drink and no one to take my mind off all the standing.
I just felt like it would have been a lot easier if I’d had a friend there, a hair tie, and a bottle of water. So… I thought I’d warn all the other bees out there… go prepared!

I went when we first got married with my BFF and she was a lifesaver. She kept my mind off things and made the time fly by. I don’t know what I would have done without her. So I totally agree with everything! Plus you are standing up there feeling kinda awkward if anyone comes in while she is pinning the back or the skirt too.

We would totally have brought you water and a pony tail holder!
Thanks for the heads up though, we go for fittings tomorrow! Even though my daughter has an appointment, they warned us it was saturday and would be busy since it’s prom/wedding season. So glad you warned us, we’ll be taking water!

I’m going tomorrow for my first fitting! I am praying the dress fits! I gained some weight since ordering it, but just recently lost 16 pounds in 28 days! Fingers crossed! And my friend IRL from weddingbee is going with me!

Glad to hear you’re all smarter than me! lol.
@Lolasmomma: I was worried about that too! My dress fit when it came in, but I’ve gained 5 pounds since then and I was nervous (might have added to the anxiety/heat/flushing). I was PARTICULARLY nervous that the seamstress would be rude about it if it was too small because I’ve not had great experiences with some “blunt” people of that profession. Luckily the lady was super nice. It “fit” today but she is going to take it out just slightly in the hips to give me a little more room and make it lay flatter. I considered just PROMISING I would love the 5 pounds in the next 3 weeks but I thought, why pressure myself? She was so nice about it and acted like it was just no big thing so I figured I’ll let her do it. If I do lose some weight, it is a corset back so its just no big deal.

I am so glad I read this post. I had the same experience! I got all light headed and had to take off my dress for a second to eat a luna bar and chug water. So embarrassing!
