Yes! we went there and got engaged in October. We stayed at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta and loved it. Also heard from some other people we met at the resort that it is the nicest hotel in the area (except for the 4 seasons but that is like $$$$). What would you like to know?

Here is a link to November from my personal blog archives… I have 4 or so posts recapping our trip that probably have more than you could ever want to know 🙂

I also went there back in 2007. However, i wouldn’t recommend my hotel for a honeymoon spot. We stayed at the Buenaventura which was awesome, but not for that occasion 🙂

But overall, PV was beautiful and a blast!

I got engaged in Puerto Vallarta two summers ago. We went in August and it was great. We stayed at a place called Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa…it was pretty nice, beds on the beach, a pool overlooking the beach with a swim up bar. They greeted us at check-in with a massage and a glass of champagne. We had a great time there, but I’m sure there were lots of nicer hotels. The one draw back was that the area of the beach that we were at was basically the end of the line for that part of the beach that was “safe” for swimming. The water seemed a bit crazy…

We just went recently and it was nice.  I think it depends what you’re looking for.  The coastline where we were was a bit rocky so my feet were quite torn up by the time we left.  The town was cute and had fun stuff but I donno to me it seems more of a fun trip then a honeymoon spot, but we didn’t stay in a resort so it might depend what you’re looking for.

re: the water. I think it is kind of beach-specific. Dreams PV had a private beach and there was one area that was obviously rocky but most of it was not at all. The waves were STRONG but they were very predictable and broke close to the shore. So if you tried to just wade out and stay at like waist-deep you got the crap beaten out of you by them, but if you swim out just past where you can stand you can just float for hours. It is actually my favorite beach I’ve been to because most of them the waves are unpredictable and you kind of can’t go anywhere without worrying about getting sloshed on. 🙂

I haven’t been, but Fiance and I are planning a honeymoon for a town about 20 miles up the coast, so we will fly through PV. It is called Sayulita, and I’m really excited. Sunday we had dinner with a couple that had gone in the past. It is a small town, and much quieter, as in wine bars and little restaurants, no big hotels, as opposed to big night life and tequilla bars and resorts. The town is famous as a surfing spot, so there is definitely an international hippy vibe, but it is a tourist town, not rough at all.

Just another thought.

Ohh, we went to Sayulita when we were there.  It’s really cute.  There are some rocky parts there too so I’d bring water shoes, which I didn’t do and OUCH!  Also EVERYONE surfs there, it’s super cheap and super fun.  But…..I tried to go in a water shirt and bikini bottoms.  Huge mistake.  The boards stick to your skin so my tummy was protected by the shirt but my thighs had rash (and by rash it included some missing skin) for the rest of the trip.  So just a warning if you try it out, bring some spandex shorts and shirt (or something that will do well in water) or something to protect your skin, but it’s def worth trying.

My boyfriend lived in Puerto Vallarta for awhile. It’s nice but REALLY touristy. There are so many other gorgeous beaches in Mexico off the beaten path that are so much nicer, more private and romantic. I suggest looking at Manzanillo – or base yourselfs in PV but take some day trips down the Jalisco coast to check out some other beaches hardly anyone knows about (Chacala is one of my favorites). I agree Sayulita is cute.

I went there as a destination on a cruise.  Definitely visit Yelapa while you are there.  It is awesome!

I loved it when I went on vacation.  I stayed at the Marriott, it was resonably priced- although not super romatic for a honeymoon.
