I had gone there about 9 years ago for spring break. I didn’t care for it. The food was not good & the drinks were weak.

@mrschristmas:  I attended one of my best friend’s wedding last June at Dreams Palm Beach. We had a fabulous time! Seriously, one of the best times of my life! There was a group of about 40 people. The wedding was beautiful, beach was gorgeous, resort was great! She booked through a destination wedding planner– VIP Vacations, Inc., which according to her was a lifesaver!

I wish you the BEST OF LUCK!

Happy planning 🙂

I’ve never been to a wededing int the DR, but Punta Cana has the best beaches I’ve ever seen.  The sand doesn’t get hot and it is all beach for miles and miles — it seems like you can walk forever.

My friends and I stayed at the Hard Rock in Punta Cana for a week this past September. The beaches were GORGEOUS, but the ocean was very rough on that side of the island. We enjoyed every moment of our trip.

I was considering the Dominican Republic for my destination wedding, but it is a long trip from here on the West Coast.

I hope you find a venue that works for you!

My brother had his wedding at Bavaro Princess in 2008. There were about 36 friends and family attending and we all had a wonderful time!! The wedding planner met with my bro and SIL when we arrived there, walked them through exactly was going to happen, took down their preferences for cake, flowered, food etc. and had a mini rehearsal with them at the wedding gazebo. Because of the number of guests, they decided to go with the private beach party reception after the ceremony, as opposed to a reception at one of the restaurants. I believe you had to have a minimum of 30 guests in order to have this and the cost at the time was $60 per head. The wedding ceremony itself was simple and very smoothly managed by the staff there. Flowers, decor, etc was exactly as they requested, champagne was served as soon as the ceremony ended. Wedding ceremony ended around 5:30pm and reception started at 7pm so there was time for people to relax, change etc. The reception totally blew us away! A section of the beach from the edge of the water up to the tree line where a bar was set up was cordoned off with coconut branches, tables incl. table decor, candles, chair covers, etc were all set up exactly as in a banquet hall, wooden dance floor was set up on the beach, there was beautiful lighting, an open bar with lounge area, DJ (who was happy to mix in songs we gave him on an ipod), full buffet area with lobster, steak and a great variety of mains and sides, lots of desserts including carved fruit decor and plenty of staff to take care of all the guests. Everyone had a fantastic time, but I recommend booking a massage at the spa for the following day, need it after a night of too much dancing and drinking!!

Just saw this thread… Has anyone stayed at Secrets Royal Beach in PC?  We’ve been steered there by a travel agent but I am reading not so wonderful things about it. 🙁  Is the ocean good for swimming?  Fiance wanted to pass on Cancun Now Sapphire resort because he read reviews that there was seaweed in the water…

I was married this past winter. I stayed at the gran bahia esmerelda! We were literally given vip bracelts because we were a wedding. We drank $100/btl champagne. It was all name brand booze (*and strong) we had a few people not make it to dinnner a few nights because the drinks crept up on them and they passed out in there rooms. There was a gorgeous beach…a million bars and pools, mini-golf, great shopping on the resort and an amaaaazing wedding co-ordinator (mine was flora and she was great. Perfect english and very accomadating).

do you have any specific questions? im happy to help.
