Ours was at the Excellence, 11 days and around $10k (airfare, excursions and upgrade to excellence club which was worth it) PC is so beautiful and it was a lovely honeymoon, just beware the ocean isn’t very swimmable.

Not a honeymoon, but I’ve been on vacation to Punta Cana. 6 night, 7 days. We stayed at the Majestic Colonial in the Colonial Club. The Colonial Club was definitely worth the upgrade price we paid, in my opinion. All in with airface, transportation, room, 2 excursions, spa package, and tips I believe were were about $4k for the week. Of course where you are coming from, time of year, etc all make a big difference.

The resort was fine – not my favorite but definitely not the worst either. I am actually heading back to the DR in about a month, but checking out La Romana instead this time.

Do you have a list of resorts you are considering?

I went for a holiday with my fiancé to Paradisus Punta Cana and had such a wonderful time. It was so beautiful the beach so well kept the service amazing and really just a great resort. We paid about 4000 for seven days off Expedia. If you want to relax and have lots of restaurants and entertainment then this resort is great. They also have a adult only area which is lovely.

I would look at resorts on Bavaro beach, its stunning! That said, I didn’t find PC very safe to venture off resort, so plan to stay on resort. Great lay on the beach, drink umbrella drinks and relax vacation area. I usually do a package that includes flight, so it depends where you’re flying from for prices.

Another vote for Paradisus Punta Cana. I have been to PC a few times and this is by far the best resort I’ve stayed at.

I always book through Expedia, check pricing online and then call up and speak with a rep on the phone. Don’t divulge the pricing you saw online, just tell the rep that you saw it cheaper there than what they are quoting you and see if they can do anything about the price. We got about $800 off one of our PC trips this way.

jayquellen :  the Majestic Elegance and Colonial are right next door to each other, so we did end up walking the grounds there a little as well. The price point for the Colonial was a little lower when we went and we didn’t see enough of a reason to pay more for the Elegance. We had a private butler as well, but they’re really not as present as you may think – just a direct point person at the hotel in case you do need anything.

We did Scubadoo in PC which was a lot of fun because neither of us are scuba certified. We also did jet skis. I did a  cenotes tour in Mexico which was a lot of fun. We waited to book all our excursions once we got there and were able to negotiate rates.

jayquellen :  went to PC in Feb/March, family of 4 for a week. I think for everything it was $8Kish. Stayed at Paradisus in their concierge level, have stayed at other Paradisus properties in Mexico. Went surfing off the hotel property at a surf camp on Bavaro beach, we took a private car but the island seemed fine – no worse than anywhere else in the Caribbean, we go every year to different parts. Personally, I think the service is better in Mexico but sadly, because of cartel violence in tourist areas, not willing to go to Mexico this year. Not the biggest fan of all inclusives, but Paradisus is one of the better chains we have experienced. Hope that helps.

We spent a week at the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar a couple of years ago. It was amazing.

5-star, adults only. It’s actually a huge resort complex so you can go to the  side with kids or stay on the adults part which we mostly did (calmer beach, pool, restaurants etc).

It’s expensive but highly recommend…the food was good too.

Consider the beaches, as some are experiencing seaweed problems this year, which of course you can never fully predict. So far any resort along Bavaro has been just fine, full of guests swimming 🙂

jellybellynelly :  Oh bummer!  PC was recently voted one of the safest vacation spots in the Caribbean. What made it seem unsafe to you?
