I stayed there last summer on vacation with my Fiance and our best friend.  It was alright.  The rooms needed to be refurbished.  There was mold on the ceilings and walls, and there were some weird stains on the couch in the room.  Our room also had a major problem with ants. The food was great, and there are so many restaurants to choose from you could eat somewhere different every night.  The pool was a little warm… felt like bath water so not too refreshing.  It was super windy when we were there so no one really was in the ocean except for on kayaks and sailboats.

My Fi says that if you’re outgoing and like to participate in the resort activities during the day, you’ll have a great time.  The entertainment staff was amazing.

It was nice for the price of the resort and everything you got.  We didn’t take advantage of any excursions you could pay for.  The resort itself is in the middle of nowhere so you’re pretty much trapped at the hotel.

All-in-all it was a nice place.  The rooms aren’t the best, but if you don’t plan on being in your room too much I’d definitely recommend it.

I’ve heard the Excellence resort in Punta Cana is nice, too.

We stayed at the Excellence. Everybody we met got food poisoning, including my husband. And I mean every couple we met.

We were on a bus with a couple from Dreams and their only complaint was that the pool was so full of kids it made them not want to be near the pool.

There are great resorts in Punta Cana although I like Puerto Plata much better. Beaches are great..room I had was amazing with a huge glass door into the bathroom..and lots to do at the resort. If you really want to get around the area you can go to Higuey and go see one of the most beautiful churches in the world. Its a bit far be warned ha…

We stayed at the Majestic Elegance in December – it’s one of the newest resorts in Punta Cana recently opening – my fiance got sick – the food was gross – while the weather and resort were beautiful and the staff and room were great, the food was so bad I will never go back to DR.

Nooo don’t say that I’m Dominican. I can assure you there are great places you have to do your research though. Of course there is always one bad place for hundreds of great places. I had a bad experience once, but really Puerto Plata is better. Punta Cana is out of the way, and every native knows that its more for tourists. Many Europeans go there as opposed to other places. Therefore, the food is more blanned to cater to a greater number of different people.

I’m thinking of the DR for our honeymoon as well. It’s also in October… I was thinking Punta Cana, but maybe I’ll look into Puerto Plata instead. I’ve been to the DR before (Juan Dolio) and I loved it. The Fiance has never been anywhere really so it’s be new to him…

I just noticed we have the same wedding date… I had seen other posts where brides scream, “WOW, MY DATE TWIN!!!”” and I thought yuck, but now that I’ve found you…”WOW, MY DATE TWIN!!!” lol…just kidding…

We stayed at the Excellence Resort and loved it.  My husband got sick but I didnt – we later found out that they make their caesar dressing with a lot of raw eggs so I think thats what he got sick on, alot of things are made totally different from the US.  It was a beautiful resort though and we had an amzing time, including a private dinner on the beach just me and him.  Its also totally all-inclusive and an adults only resort.

A few years ago we stayed at the Paradisius Palma Real, and it was awesome.  Very romantic – a perfect Honeymoon spot.

I just got back from the Iberostar Punta Cana on Wednesday! The Iberostar resort complex is great. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and while the American-style food was standard, this Boriqua stuffed herself with platanos, yuca, yautia, rice and beans, gandules, and all things Carribean.

I think in general, you have to be careful about drinking the water and water-based drinks (DR tap water is not safe to drink, unfortunately). I drank a lot of coffee and a lot of alcohol and was fine.
