Westwood :   letsdothisthing :  Sometimes if specific qualities were requested (color, coat length, etc) and only a limited number of puppies are born with those, then they will commit the puppy to a home early. If there are severe problems as the puppy ages and they don’t think it will be a good fit I’m sure they will let the prospective home know.

I imagine placing a toy poodle is a bit less work than placing a high drive breed, too.

misty2007 :  color of the coat should really be the last factor when placing a puppy. It’s fine for a buyer to have a preference, but any breeder that just guarantees you a pup based on color when born is not reputable.

Westwood :  By the time a puppy is born a reputable breeder has already screened the homes the litter is going to and deemed them capable and fit for the breed. Preferences on temperment, drive, color, and sex are often asked in advance and obviously, with any animal, color should not be a deciding factor. However, in the case of a toy poodle and this puppy meeting two of the big “preference” checks, I’d think it’s safe for the breeder to place in the beginning (barring any major temperment issues as the puppy ages) without being considered disreputable.
