I know a dog in our neighbourhood broke her toe -she was a very active, very high energy border collie. It was near torture, but I know they did a few weeks of rest with her, and for a usually off leash dog when they did resume activty it was on leash, on grass only!

Took things day by day after the few weeks of rest, and eventually got back to normal and it healed fine! She was young too when it happened!

Hope it’s not a break for your pup and will heal up sooner than later with lots of rest.

I hope you puppy feels better! I haven’t experienced a broken toe, but one of my dogs did need surgery on her ankle and had to have internal and external stiches. The healing time was about 7-10 days. I kept her confined to her crate while I was at work and then tried to keep her laying low. She is a border collie with extremely high enegry and doesn’t feel pain so it was fun. But I had some doggie board games and also some kongs. Try to play games that may challenge her mind. Also training exercises make puppies tired so you could work on some of her commands while she’s in her resting period.

Strains will heal within a week, if she’s still limping on it after that it’s probably a break– unfortunately, there’s not much you can do for a toe (We have hunting dogs who run hard in the fields, so we’ve dealt with a large variety of injuries over the years).  For a broken toe, all you can really do is just make sure she doesn’t have to move much, and give her pain meds (assuming the vet gives you them).

A break will take around a month to heal, and you just want to make sure not to let them reinjure it.

My puppy sprained his toe at 2 months old. It was the SADDEST thing. He kept trying to lean on it to go potty and he would cry out… heartbreaking. It took a full month before he was walking on it normally again.  After that, it was like it never happened.

Edit: Just saw that it is, in fact, broken! I’m so sorry to hear that! You might try putting a cone on her head to keep her from chewing. It will add to your heartbreak a little bit, but it will be better for her in the long run. You can get a cone at Pet Smart cheaper than your vet!

All In:  Hello, so did you puppy recover? Can you share any tips about what you did a home with your dog. Mine broke a toe a couple of days ago, and he is so bored!!!… right after we left the vet, he torn the splint apart. we have been home for must of the time, going for little walks once a day… he is so miserable … he used to be very active, chase squirrels etc.. Thank you!
